Perhaps the Sunbeam is being run through the dishwasher (Miele-same as mine) before being listed on F-Bay.  Great setup Tannin!  I have suggested to my wife that because you have such great taste in dishwashers, we should follow you lead in grinders.... she said: "Ill grind yours!"  What could that mean...?

Its a tale of two conicals-my wife thinks one of them looks "comical" .
I certainly understand what people mean when they talk about "clumping" now too.
The sunbeam has been saved from a terrible fate-and is going to a good home

Boy, those Roburs are BIG beasties arent they ....

Bet the coffee is great though 8-)

                  Congrats,

Re: Mazzer Major E or Compak K10 WBC

Its certainly a big change from the sunbeam. The first thing I noticed is the lack of clumping-probably because of the doser. The grind adjustment mechanism is very stiff-I need to wear gloves and use both hands to adjust it. However I havent had to adjust the setting much- slightly coarser for some beans and finer for others-but no more than about a 10% shift in either direction from where it was sitting on arrival.
There is the finger guard/auto-fill-off in the doser which restricts access to the cavity "throat" between the burrs and the doser-however a small baby bottle brush with a bent handle works well-Ill probably remove the finger guard later, but dont want to tamper too much at this point.
My morning routine is to pour a jar of beans in the hopper-grind it through-make my 6 coffees after discarding the first "thwack"-and then keep thwacking to empty the doser-after brushing out the throat. Using the portafilter overfill and then level off method. Very consistent results-the coffee is more balanced, greater definition of flavours-especially spice and fruit notes, more persistent crema-and basically what you expect at a cafe. Still experimenting with dose and grind-this could take months-but I havent had a bad coffee from it yet-though I have choked the machine once.
I vacuum the doser out on the weekend.
Im really happy with it. I have some concern about the inconsistency of not having a relatively full hopper-with some weighting down of the beans-but even without this I get great results.
It is a monster-but Im not noticing the size much now-you do get used to it.
I think home roasting is the next hurdle for me-but that will wait until next year!

                        tannin

                        Congrats on a formidable grinder.

I have never regretted my move up the scale.
After the initial size shock  [smiley=embarassed.gif] [smiley=embarassed.gif] the remarkable design of the Mazzer allows them  blend into their location.  [smiley=smiley.gif] [smiley=smiley.gif]

Some great coffee on the way.
