Congrats on a formidable grinder.
I have never regretted my move up the scale.
After the initial size shock [smiley=embarassed.gif] [smiley=embarassed.gif] the remarkable design of the Mazzer allows them blend into their location. [smiley=smiley.gif] [smiley=smiley.gif]
Some great coffee on the way.

Re: Mazzer Major E or Compak K10 WBC
Its certainly a big change from the sunbeam. The first thing I noticed is the lack of clumping-probably because of the doser. The grind adjustment mechanism is very stiff-I need to wear gloves and use both hands to adjust it. However I havent had to adjust the setting much- slightly coarser for some beans and finer for others-but no more than about a 10% shift in either direction from where it was sitting on arrival.
There is the finger guard/auto-fill-off in the doser which restricts access to the cavity "throat" between the burrs and the doser-however a small baby bottle brush with a bent handle works well-Ill probably remove the finger guard later, but dont want to tamper too much at this point.
My morning routine is to pour a jar of beans in the hopper-grind it through-make my 6 coffees after discarding the first "thwack"-and then keep thwacking to empty the doser-after brushing out the throat. Using the portafilter overfill and then level off method. Very consistent results-the coffee is more balanced, greater definition of flavours-especially spice and fruit notes, more persistent crema-and basically what you expect at a cafe. Still experimenting with dose and grind-this could take months-but I havent had a bad coffee from it yet-though I have choked the machine once.
I vacuum the doser out on the weekend.
Im really happy with it. I have some concern about the inconsistency of not having a relatively full hopper-with some weighting down of the beans-but even without this I get great results.
It is a monster-but Im not noticing the size much now-you do get used to it.
I think home roasting is the next hurdle for me-but that will wait until next year!

Its a tale of two conicals-my wife thinks one of them looks "comical" .
I certainly understand what people mean when they talk about "clumping" now too.
The sunbeam has been saved from a terrible fate-and is going to a good home

Perhaps the Sunbeam is being run through the dishwasher (Miele-same as mine) before being listed on F-Bay. Great setup Tannin! I have suggested to my wife that because you have such great taste in dishwashers, we should follow you lead in grinders.... she said: "Ill grind yours!" What could that mean...?Originally posted by 5A594C454C464440424C290 link=1266365546/19#19 date=1276092284> the 1st pic of the Sunbeam, just before you fed it to the Robur ..

Robur hmmOriginally posted by 495C535354533D0 link=1266365546/16#16 date=1276085289Is in fact a robur- I thought it was too big -but I think it fits nicely-it looks smaller every day!
Pictures can be deceiving as it looks like the Majors twin
Now I am just going to repeat what I said above
May you pull god shots on every occasion using your Mazzer Robur

Sounds like your experiment had at least two variables :-?Originally posted by 3E2B242423244A0 link=1266365546/11#11 date=1268131197Ive tried the major V robur again-and there wasnt much in it-but havent been able to use the same beans in them
To make any sort of valid conclusion from that would be impossible....

Kony certainly has a few fans out there. Not too many Major supporters, though the K10 is up there.
Ive tried the major V robur again-and there wasnt much in it-but havent been able to use the same beans in them. FWIW the barista thought it was overkill to get a major or kony for home; mind you he had a robur at his home 8-)
Im saving up for a kony, I think-though might check the K10 doserless pricing later in the year.
Thanks for all the feedback
