    Re: Cleaning Super Jolly

Ive gone the way of WSully and set up a rechargable handheld vac with an extension hose and it keeps my grinder and coffee area spotless. ;D

I have found an air compressor (with obligatory safety glasses) to be a very efficient cleaning aid for my SJ.
NEVER use a compressor near a grinder....Its a perfect way to drive coffee into places where it should never go...

I did a major strip of the SJ when i first got it, i now have a vacuum mounted(hidden) in my coffee cabinet with just the hose poking up the back that i use after every time i dose, it does the tray, forks, doser and chute, not a ground in sight! and no build up either....picked up the vac for $10 off gumtree

    Thanks for the input folks.

Grinder is stripped, scrubbed, dryed and rubbed. Looks like new and ready to grind some beans for the morning ritual.

This site and the people that frequent it are so amazing with their help and advice.

    Thanks again

I removed the flap and switch as a unit, it is a little involved as you have to jumper the connections inside the grinder, but gives you access to the chute in order to clean it out, tonnes get stuck in there......

Just took the bottom burr carrier out, not bad but still a little build up that I wouldnt want my coffee coming in contact with.

Sound like a bit of a snob there. ;D

it can hide a few sins under there, just so you know its clean, its an easy job, just be careful putting it back together and avoid cross threading!!! It goes without saying, make sure its unplugged from the wall when ever you play around with it Roll Eyes
Keep us posted on how its going for ya Wink

Yep lots of petrified grinds get caught in a cavity but mostly under the bottom blade/burr

While you are cleaning pull the doser apart and do the sweeper mod

Its a auto WSully would have prefered a manual but it was just to good a buy for its condition.
No biggy, i have removed the auto fill flap.....makes a massive difference to removing old grinds, i have also done the tape mod on the doser vanes.......makes a MASSIVE difference, it is completely clear of grinds when im finished dosing.....

Is there any point taking out the bottom burr carrier for cleaning, as there is no visual signs of any oil residue after just giving it a quick go with the vac.
I did and i advice you do the same, it can hide a few sins under there, just so you know its clean, its an easy job, just be careful putting it back together and avoid crossthreading!!! It goes without saying, make sure its unplugged from the wall when ever you play around with it :

Thanks for the advice, I will start with super hot water and go from there.

if its metal I would start with a HOT damp cloth with a bit of coffee machine cleaner stuff in solution and work up from there.

if its the hopper i would do it in the hot water in the sink with detergant.

you dont have much control in the dishwasher, i dont trust ours to be gentle.....
as per leehams post, great advice IMO, congrats on the SJ! I love mine, I did the same, $500 near new from 9bar, is yours an auto or manual or timer?
