I cant believe this thread has no pics! Its not a mod thread without pics! ;D

KK I think it says at the top that they are having difficulty cleaning the chute without the mod......

PS there are well designed roasters out there too, but you reinvented the wheel too! And for the record, I really love your wheel! Lol ;D

I meant cleaning off the brasso before coffee use

In any case as I recall from my M4D its near impossible to clean the chute without removing the spout assembly

I found it easy and quick to use a vacuum cleaner

              It was a joke KK,
but in thinking about it more, the brasso might leave a residue that would need a mild solvent to clean eg. metho.

Also as brass holds heat well the coffee grounds could get hotter therefor getting stale quicker (another one for you KK )

An update - The mod has worked well. I now get only 1-2 grams stuck up the chute before using a brush to get it all out ;D

Re: Doserless Grinder Modification - Macap MC4

Photo below of same mod, couple of hours with die grinder (carbide burr then emery flapper wheel), fine wet & dry paper then scotchbrite hand polishing.

Grinder still has a significant avalanching problem, but I dont attempt to grind directly into the PF, so not a big issue. Some grinds are retained, but now quickly/easily dislodged with a chopstick.

Overall a decent option for the "doserless" camp not wanting to fork out the extra $s for electronics, but would be interested in a side by side comparison with the K3T for grind quality & precision of adjustment.

Thanks for posting the pic. I was slack :-[
The pic is very similar to the mod I made - and described at the start of this thread.

Regarding comparison with the K3. This was my upgrade from the K3. It is quieter, built better, has much better grind size adjustment control. I also believe the grind quality is better as my extraction time consistency has definitely improved. 100% happy with this one.

Re: Doserless Grinder Modification - Macap MC4

I just did 3 mods to my MaCap 5:

A: Slight re adjustment to the Dosing fork... One side is now screwed in more and off sets the position of teh group.

This off sets the dose being flicked to teh left and missing the hroup and basket. Note: A bigger issue for me when using a 54 mm basket.

It also means no plastic or other crap being added to the system and can be easily put back if ever required.

B: As per post 23 above but not so aggressive - A slight taper / grove put in (dremell and tapered round stone used) so that it assists in any physics needed to get grinds out. Also polished with wet and dry.

C: Was not happy with the sweeper blades and the space between them and the wall. Added some mini angle pieces such that the over all OD has increased and a lot less free space to allow air pressure and grinds to by pass the blades..

Wow what a difference.... Need a flap now to deflect the grinds down and into the doser... And dose is dropped smack dead into teh DMC group like a charm...

Over all... Starting to like this grinder a lot... Still need a super mini hopper.... Enough for say 5 double shots or their about...

With no hopper and the spare single DCM basket acting as a bean escape guard.. Enough space for about 1.5 double shots of beans to be dropped in....

                          picture of 'mod'

Does anyone have any ideas how to further improve the clumping and retention beyond above 'mod' ?

anyone thought of mounting the whole grinder at 45 degrees to help clear retention from the burrs as per the EG-1 or kafatek monolith titan flat grinder?

Digged out this thread to share my recent mods to the Macap MC4 including a not so well-done chute mod and metal wire to reduce clumping.
Previously had 10g~ in the chute every time after use, need to remove with a chopstick, now retention is virtually 0, nothing comes out regardless how far I poke into the chute.
Very good for single dosing with the precision wormdrive, now I have to decide to keep between this one or the Quamar Q50P..
