Reviving this thread after ten years. Im looking at buying my first decent grinder and the Wega mini instant 5.8 is a little above my price range, but if its the same as the compak k3 im interested to hear reviews. Im leaning towards an Eureka Mignon (although not sure the difference with the mignon manual and mignon E?), but could be persuded into the macap m2m, sette 270 or k3. Ill be single dosing, so interested to hear if any of these machines have popcorning? and what their grind retentions are like?

    cheers

Im not sure that a silvia with a PID is as good as it use to be. You could consider the GEE, seems to get good reviews, but the Oscar is a reliable choice as well, both are a bot ugly.

I have a K3 WBC about a year old and have had no problems with it. The timed dose of the K3T doesnt seem all that useful so I went for the better static control, reduced clumping and convenience of the WBC model.

first post here, looking at getting a first setup grinder & coffee machiene, just wondering how is the k3t going? consistancy, reliability, grind and is there much clumping?

    cheers!

ps. im looking at combining it with a Nuova Oscar as they are nearly the price of a Silvia + PID... Good combo or is ther better for the money?

NOTE:This will now mean that your K3T will be a bit messy like all other grinders as there will be grinds in the chute / grinder section that will fall out when ya bang the k3 or start tamping or knocking the bench.Same as all other systems
mmm.... not sure I like that idea :-?

One of the things I like about the doserless grinder is its lack of mess.

I dont think Id gain anything by removing the flap.  I weighed my input compared to output and its less than 1% loss.

I guess youll just have to wait until your memory returns or open her up again  :
Just remember... With the plastic chute door in place, it means that if ya  weighed in beans now... The grinds in the group are from the previous weigh-in  ;D

In effect like a Super Auto  - there are always ground beans in the system ready to go...

AND no you can not get them out by running empty (no beans in the hopper)...  No grinds coming in... NO grinds to push the old stuff into your group...

Thus all the more reason to offer the first shot of a morning or after extended non use, to some one else

OR always dump the first load... Little like  that show - Theres something about Mary?

Remove this flap and things will improve.
Is it difficult to remove AM?
Am assuming it is in yours, but was in a couple that I have seen around.

Remove teh top burr as per a 6 monthly clean etc... Follow the manual :-)

You will see a split clear plastic flap hen in with a screw and small metal plate... Been a while and brain cells failing quicker than I can replace... So not sure if torx or allan key or philips... On a bit of an angle but unscrew and remove...

NOTE: This will now mean that your K3T will be a bit messy like all other grinders as there will be grinds in the chute / grinder section that will fall out when ya bang teh k3 or start tamping or knocking the bench. Same as all other systems

The K3T is a delight to use, but dont expect accuracy from the timed grind - it has proved to be erratic  :-[

To get a consistent does I use high precision digital scales which weighs up to 50g in increments of 0.01g
Just remember. The K3t has a plastic door at the top of the shute thus it relies on plenty of beans being ground and the packed grinds to be forced through. Remove this flap and things will improve.

    Wega mini instant 5.8

I have spent many hours of research looking for a grinder to match my new rancilio silva. The decision was down to the rocky or the compak K3T. Then i found that the Wega mini is the same as the compak, just relabeled. So this grinder came into my research quest as well. The wega was a similar price to the compak, but then i came across a site that was selling it for $380!!!! I wont mention the site as i dont want to offend the sponsors, but a google search should help you find it. However when i now check the same site, it says out of stock. I received my Wega well packaged with one kilo of house blend beans included. The grinder is everything i hoped it would be. It has 58mm flat burrs with stepless grind adjustments. There is a button on the side for manual grind...this gives a continuous grind, or there is a auto button which gives a timed grind(7gm)..The timed grind can be adjusted by getting to a regulator screw. The hopper can be removed without the beans going everywhere by pushing closed a shutter. The only drawback are the grind markings...very hard to see, but a couple of dabs with a white marker lets me know where my settings are.
So overall, very happy. After about half an hour of grind setting tests, i am now getting excellent shots from miss silvia.
    cheers

Working...
