  • Need help - broken Sunbeam em0480

    Hey there,

This is my first post on this site and was after some help finding a part for my Sunbeam em0480 grinder.

Its the plastic three pronged coffee ground sweeper under the bottom burr that sweeps the grounds out the exit chute. I have broken off two prongs with some overly excited cleaning and my grinder is clogging with stale grinds.

I have done heaps of googling and havent got anywhwere.

If anyone knows where i can buy the part im talking about there help would be appriciated.

It is NOT a spare part.

Do what I did and ring Sunbeam.
Play dumb and ask about obtaining the part.
The nice guy I got offered to find one in the dead grinder bin.
The techs keep a few broken grinders on hand to scavenge bits off.
If youre lucky theyll find one for you.

      Its call the "paddle".

Ive emailed a few of the sunbeam service reps and there replys either lead me to a dead end or they say that its not a listed spare part.

          Very frustrating.
I have only had my silvia for a few months and was looking to sell the em0480 and upgrade. The huge difference in grind adjustment was annoying me. Wont be able to sell it untill i fix it.

Seems like a part that could break easily. Would of thought it would be easier to find.

I will try and find a nice guy who can scavenge me one but might start shopping for a new grinder in the meantime....

            Not Available - FULL STOP.

If your lucky: A machine that has been broken by a user or had some other strange and rare fault that has not been sent back teh Sunbeam for review AND is just sitting in a Service Agents workshop is your answer...

You will just have to call around... Note: An agent may wish to charge heaps, as it is a supply / demand issue.

LOTTO = MIGHT HAVE BETTER LUCK...

I know of some one else that, had one made up / repaired AND i sourced one 12 to 18 months ago.. But am unaware of any around... Grinders just do not fail in general.

I just received a new paddle from bigwarehouse, so apparently they can source them somehow. It was an improved design too - the one I (stupidly) broke had simple flat paddle blades but the new one has additional blade sections at right angles to make them stronger and probably to do a better job of picking up the grinds.

                Good to know.
                Somethings obviously changed.
Maybe an opportunity spotted in the market to make a dollar off all those broken paddles.

Id be interested in a picture of one if you get a chance.

How much did they charge for the paddle?
I see they want $13-86 (ouch) for the silicon spout and almost $91 for the burr assembly.

Here are some pics of the new paddle. Note the triangular sections at the bottom of each blade, which werent on my original paddle. It was $22. I havent installed it yet as Im still running with two blades I glued back on the broken one. If anyone wants a two-bladed glued-up paddle Im happy to send it to a new home. It seems to do the job.

Re: Need help - broken Sunbeam em0480

Same thing happened to me today, the grinder started making the most terrible noise and I turned it off imediately pulled it down for a look see and found the 3 broken-off peices of the paddle. Could a blocked chute have caused these to snap off? The chute seamed to be full with ground coffee when I took it apart. Was it just all built up because the paddles had broken and not sweeping the coffee out and down the chute. Im trying to figure out why they broke off so it does not happen again. Thanks Bistrostu now I know where to get a new one from, is quicker than getting a whole new grinder. Im still in waranty but have wait a week till the store can get one in for me... errrrr.

Called into the local Brisbane agent..

Saw a EM0480 paddle on the desktop and some spacers..

                      Lot cheaper than thebigwharehouse ;D

                        Maybe just age.
Unless you shoved a brush up the spout to clean it and forgot to turn the power off and bumped the on switch.

The new design looks like it will give more support.
