Yes its assembled right.  i called tech support since posting and they told me to vacuum the top side and use canned compress gas from the bottom.  It is plugged profoundly and the vacuum did no good.  The brush and a turkey skewer just loosens a bit but most pasks right back.  I cant find the channel that the grounds flow through and if compressed gas doesnt work it will have to go back for service.  It has been a tinkerers nightmare with fine dust everywhere in the kitchen.  Sure hope this gets fixed soon or Im going to go back to my Aeropress and old grinder.

with the blend I have been using I have to vacuum the grinds out to clean it.

I vacuum from below and above, I use my hand as sort of seal between the exit port and vacuum cleaner seems to clean well eventually

I am currently having to do this every 250g of coffee otherwise I notice a decreases in dose.

I have been informed it is down to the blend

I will take a guess here:

You are grinding very fine to try and get a slow pour.

The grind you have selected is very fine - indeed, so fine that you are clogging your grinder.

Fact: Belaroma octavia is a low viscosity coffee and very lightly roasted.

Back to opinion: Coffees with these characterstics may not be suitable for espresso and/or difficult to work with in order to obtain the intended results.

Suggest you try one of their different blends, or coffee from a different source.

Although I dont own one of these I would safely say that the grounds chute MUST be found and cleaned if it is clogged.

I sometimes poke a plastic coffee stirrer that is bent at the tip into the exit end of the grinds chute of my super jolly to disturb any caked up grounds inside before flushing it out with a few fresh grinds. It never reached the point of getting clogged.

My Rocky and  Old Solis Meastro did have those problems a few times and a thorough cleaning (including clogged grounds chute) fixed them. This is not an unheard of problem with grinders (Rocky uses flat burrs and Meastro conical.)

In fact oily beans were the cause a couple of times. I did not stop using them, but to solve the problem I would thoroughly clean the burrs  before using oily beans.

You want the burrs to be clean and DRY especially down in the ridges. I sometimes used a needle to GENTLY scape coffee out from between the cutting blades and any indentations. The grinder would work fine on the oily beans after that.

Another very important thing to remember is every time you adjust the grind to a finer setting do it with the motor running (do this before it clogs up the burrs not after) because if you dont you wind up cramming, crushing, and pressing fine grinds into the ridges of the burrs instead getting scissored (cut) down to size and expelled through the chute.

One time some genius at my job site manged to cause my super jolly to seize by pouring already ground coffee into the hopper and attempting to regrind it finer.

This caused a crammming jamming mess that left me with the joy of a thorough cleaning job.

The same thing will happen if the chute is clogged and the ground beans have nowhere to go. Instead of being expelled they get crammed in the grinding chamber and ridges of the cutting burrs. That is not good.

If you have it fixed and you dont know where the chute is, the problem may come back if you are unable clean the chute once in a while.

Another possibility is that your shim job may have caused your grinder to be able to grind way too fine (powder) in which case I would adjust it coarser but at this point absolutely not until you have throroughly cleaned it (including the exit chute) first.

Remember spotless and DRY it is not uncommon for oily coffees to cause occaisional jams that should be easily remedied by a good cleaning

I do disagree with some here in that I believe an espresso grinder should be able to adjust fine enough to choke any machine even if adjusted to a high pressure such as 15 bars with almost any quality of coffee (from mediocore to poor) short of the worst dried out crap which would be a quite a task to find and therefore an unlikely cause of fast pours.

Does anybody knows, if there is a way to adjust the basic amount of coffe, grinded by the breville smart grinder? I mean: Is there a hidden menue reachable by a kind of shortcut?

            Why I ask?
Well, it is possible to adjust the amount in increments of abot 5%. But with my smart grinder it`s not possible to grind less then about 9 gram, even if I set it to minus 5 increments.

Hello bavaria and welcome to CS!

I dont believe you can change the programming. You can however, use the manual feature on your grinder, to pulse small amounts. Pressing the start/cancel button once will start dispensing the preset amount, but if you press it again while its still running will stop the dose immediately, ie. press the button twice!

              Cheers
              Den

                Hi all,

Anyone have any experience dealing with e61.com.au? I bought a breville grinder from them over a month ago and it still hasnt arrived. Ive sent a few emails to their sales and normal addresses with no replies, rang the 1800 number but just get their all our staff our busy prerecorded message with instructions to leave a message. I have but no one has gotten back to me.

I got an email stating that my order had shipped on the 6th of July but its now the 22nd and I have no tracking number to check with the Post Office if theyve lost/received the package. I know e61 is active on these forums so am hoping they see this post. Im eager to try out my very first coffee grinder, please help!

I ordered mine and it took 1.5 weeks to get shipped.  I sent emails and left messages just to know I didnt give my money away.

I did get an email stating that they are bench testing the grinder to make sure it works and to see if it needs shims.

I did not recieve a tracking order, but on the website I did see that my order was shipped and three days later I recieved my grinder.

I had to contact Phil for more shims....

                  After 3 weeks......I have a grinder.

Im more concerned that its now 2.5 weeks since it was shipped but still no sign of it. How did you check on the website to see that your order was shipped? Thanks for your post though; good to know that I might be waiting for a grinder, but im not the only one.

I ordered online, so I created an account. At the bottom of the website are menu items. Once you log in.....you can see another tab called order history where they keep the status of the order.

I think the best bet will be to call Matt and wait for him to return your call. I am certain hell want to make this right as a matter of urgency.

If the article was sent registered or express post, it will be trackable. If not, its probably AWOL and you guys will have to come to a solution.

Just bought my second Smart Grinder and have to return it for a replacement >

The motor makes a very uneven noise and theres a strong smell of oil. I know its not the burrs because even without them the noise is still there.

I rang Breville and they suggest returning it for a replacement.
