            Hi Folks,
Well you would never guess but the grinder was found on the seat at my front door by my wife at around 10am.

Thanks E61 (Matt), 10days and I finally have it!!!!!

First impressions are V good a very nice piece of kit.

Yes I have tested it out, but the  "new roast" beans I bought are a bit long in the tooth and even on the finest grind Crema was very hard to create.  Then I changed to AMs Birthday Roast, almost gone, and the whole process improved dramatically.

Thus proving that beans do age.  This is the problem I am having with the old grinder.  It will not grind old roasts fine enough.  Seems I keep my beans too long or else buy too large a quantity.   I guess I will hear more on this score, from Am when I catch up with him!!!!

Using the double shot basket I had the shot setting at 3, in order to fill it and the grind setting at the finest.  This coupled with a hard tamp gave me a nice crema.  However I was at the limit of the machines capability.

But as stated before my beans are perhaps too old?

Even AMs Birthday Roast! is getting on a bit; given me on the 4th July.  Enough for one cup left.

I can hear you now AM….throw them out!!

So this aside, the machine has a great degree of control.  With a fresh roast and a couple of test sessions one should be able to create great crema and of course a great drink.

Will need to go shopping tomorrow to carry me over until I build a roaster.

Need to chat to The Coffeeguy in Brisbane about the  BES900 and his special.

Just after a bit of help. Got my smart grinder over the weekend and notice from reading the manual that the amount can be adjusted up to 8 shots.

When I tap the amount button on mine it only changes between 1 or 2 shots. Am I doing something wrong?

if you swap the cradle for the tub thingy it lets you it has magic magnets that know what is under the spout.

why would you want to grind 8 shots?

Ah ok, that makes sense, thanks.

Totally agree with "why would you want to grind 8 shots".

I was just refering to the maximums that it illustrates and couldnt achieve it while exploring the machine yesterday, thought I might have been doing something wrong, turns out I was :

                    Thanks for the tip.

Maybe for a big plunger or drip

The plunger and drip scale is measured in Cups. It goes up to 12 cups.

Only reason I could think of for grinding 8 shots for espresso use would be if you are storing ground coffee but if thats the case then why buy a grinder...... Fresh or bust!

you will notice when it is adjusted to plunger or filter(drip) it changes from shots to cups and tells you to remove cradle.
                          Its a very "smart" grinder

Ended up getting my breville from Harvey Norman for $278. Still waiting for my refund from E61 though

The BCG800 is pretty great, I love the attention to details, such as the magnetic coffee grind catcher, finger holes on the grinder lid and power cord, the on/off portafilter activated switch. Also its really quiet! Still trying to experiment with grind and tamp to work with a pressurised basket and a Sunbeam that doesnt give me the same pressure every time.

I would suggest contacting E61 for an update and to make sure this hasnt fallen through the cracks.

I assume you have standardized your dose and tamp. Why are you using the pressurised basket
