I think you may find due to new laws coming through they wont sell the bottom burr to just anyone, youll need to be a qualified electrical/electronic person to be able to purchase one and install it.

Interesting, so can anyone confirm is it available as a spare?

Havent heard of new laws, are they to try to stop the backyarder from grinding off their arm, when they forget to unplug it from the wall before repairing?

Yeah- I hear its also not on to fix your bike- lest you get grease under your fingernails as it could lead to infection or poisoning.

Looks like we are heading towards a Darwin award free world. What will we read when we have nothing better to do?  :

interesting considering the shims require you to remove the bottom burr and they are sent out as a self install

1 side of a 2 part burr set
I think it is more about the plastic locking device which I guess could break as has been said in this thread before regarding burr wear how many kilos a day are you planning to grind.

I thought that soon after I posted, to install the shims you need to take the bottom burr out.

If shapeshifter is correct in needing an electrican almost all of the hundreds of units sold in Australia will need to be returned to a Breville authorised repair shop to add the shims  :-/

A task which requires some idea of coffee extraction not just an A grade electricians licence  :-?

I surely hope Australia isnt turning into a Nanny state (country  ) oops too late!

Maybe if Phil is still around he may be able to shed some light on the bottom burr availability??

Only a couple of coffees a day, but...  I would like to know they are available if they ever wear out before the machine does, or if something unfortunate like a stone went through and damaged them.  Sunbeam offer replacement sets for their grinders apparently

I think its silly talk , you only need to undo one dome nut to remove lower burr and replace, and most owners have added shim kits.

Its a spare part and should be sold as that, up to user / owner if they want to install or have technician do it.

Im waiting for a call back from Breville regarding the availability of the bottom burr.

From memory, the grinder wont work once you remove the hopper, but I dont have one in front of me to confirm.

Electrical regulations: there is always talk about changes, and sometimes change happens. In QLD there is a relatively new law requiring the display of a "Dont DIY" sign supposedly deterring people to instal hard wired appliances, light switches and the like. Although I dont want to, Ill be interested to hear of the first person who has a mishap because they didnt know what "DIY" means and wonder who will then be held responsible.

As far as I am aware, Bunnings, etc. still sell all sorts of electrical and plumbing components required to be installed by an electrician or plumber to Mr and Mrs Average citizen. So until the law changes, it is what it is.

Changing a burr set on a Breville Grinder does not involve any possible contact with the internal electrical components. Any electrical appliance should be turned off and unplugged during maintenance.

Yep, if you remove (or even just unlock) hopper and turn on the grinder, it displays a message along the lines of "install hopper"

when i purchased this it scanned at $299.95 but i mentioned the price tag and they were happy to honor it. i think they removed the tag afterwards though!
im not sure if/how david jones do price matching, but you guys *may* have some luck mentioning this at your local store? i could probably upload a scan of the receipt if i could get my scanner working
No luck. $299.95 less 20% if you want one.

You certainly got a bargain but the rest of us are getting them for free now with a Ferrari thrown in by using your credit card number....

Only valid till 11/11 but still plenty of time to spend-up.

(maybe you should edit the off-site photo to remove your card details!)

Is this considered a stepped grinder? (the steps seem to be electronic) How does it go then on fine tuning the grind size? Has anyone found that they needed a grind size in between 2 of the steps?
This is what Ive found on my EM0450, and thus have sandpapered the notches and added a strip of duct tape to the side to hold the grind where I need it, as I often found that one step was too fine and the next too course.
Im considering this as an upgrade to the EM0450 (for the Silvia I hope to upgrade to by the end of the year )
Sorry if this has been asked before on this thread, its kinda hard to read through 11 pages of  comments!
