Okay, after finally getting around to popping into store and getting a replacement, i found out the issue with the problematic grinder that I first got....
It had no distributer fan! Hence why it was grinding and nothing was going down the chute.
Well im happily trying to fine tune my grind now for my coffee machine - with grinds going down the chute.
Metallic smell?? No, but if its new, the first few times you use it, it could smell a bit due to residues etc burning off the motor etc as they get hot, which is normal.
If your burrs are are grinding together than you would know about it due t the noise, and it would sound very different to normal operation.
Yeah thats most likely the new smell that artman described, im still getting it as well. Its definitely not the burrs grinding down eachother (unless youre getting a REALLY loud distinct "metal on metal" sound)
Would metallic smell be transferring itself to the coffee?
Im getting a fairly metallic/acidic taste in my coffee recently, I think it was there before but it seems like its getting more prominent, not sure if its grinder or machine... really frustrating.

Id be extremely surprised if it were due to the grinder.
The first lot of grinders that came out had a burnt oil smell which eventually will go away. It might still be happening with later consignments. :-/
If you have been unwell recently, this might also account for what you are experiencing.
Then of course, it could just be the coffee you are using.
Nah havent been sick recently, and checked the burrs and there wasnt any black marks or obvious touching of the burrs... So probs not.
Using Pablo and rustys blend 11 days post roast, have used it a lot but also used a few others from Sibonis, but still same metallic acidic taste.
Tasted water coming out of the machine today and compared with the Britain filtered I put in and there seems to be a bit of the taste present, so maybe my "trusty" old EM5900. Have descaled and chemical backflushed and rinsed and still it remains. Sucks.
Just purchased second BCG800 as back up for Missus school hospitality class grinders. Comparing this one with my own for grind setting for 60ml in 30 seconds double basket, this one ground one notch finer. However dose was 4 bars less whereas mine was 2 bars more. Is there any adjustment possible for the dosing difference or is it factory set?
