As well, I'm now confused about the warranty on the SG. I got my information from the general warranty info on Breville.ca, but the Australian site says specifically that the SG has a 2 year warranty.
Warranty's vary country to country. Check the warranty information that came with your grinder or with Breville.ca.
I just received the Smart Grinder yesterday and had a question regarding the dosing button. I know its time based and will vary depending on the grind size... but will it also vary based on the fullness of the hopper? i.e. if the hopper is almost empty, will the grinder dose less than when the hopper is almost full?
Thinking of picking a Smart Grinder up, and wondering if anyone knows if the Good Guys will still do it for $165? Seems like a hell of deal at that price!
Are they price matching from another store, or is that just the price they'll take it down to if you ask nicely?
Picked up my bcg last night for 2 hundy and couldn't be more impressed with the design and quality. No more em0480 coffee grinds flying everywhere. Perfect dose, perfect consistency every time. 9 coffees so far and the only adjustment required was the amount of beans to express.
No way will GG do it for under $200. I had to return mine for a replacement, had originally bought it for $165 with the BDB, and they didn't want to give me the replacement, wanted to charge me for it, had to get very high authorisation to do it.
Just hope this one doesn't blow it's gearbox like the last one. New one still needed shims as well.
Ok. I've had my Smart Grinder for a couple weeks now and I think I basically have it dialed in. But I can't seem to get a consistent dose and wondering if anyone else also experiences this. The first dose of the day is ~ 16g. The second dose is about 17g. The third dose is about 18g and then it will go up to as high as 20g on the subsequent doses. It doesn't seem like the grinder is grinding longer or shorter with the various doses. I've checked by weighing each dose. I've made sure the hopper is full when weigh the doses.
Well... more fun with the BCG800. I'm trying out the Lavazza Dek Decaf Espresso beans. I dial it in the settings. And now its dosing ~ 20 grams each time. Even when I adjust the dosage all the way to the left.
I was hoping for more consistency. Maybe I'll see how it behaves with just a single shot. Maybe I'll get 15g with a single shot and dosage adjusted all the way to the right.

It maybe the age of your beans which may be the problem. Do you know how fresh the beans are?
Guys I picked up a SG a few weeks ago and I suspect it needs shims.
If I use beans that are more than a week old I have to have the machine maxed on the fine scale and it still only takes about 15 seconds for a double shot.
I think I've got my technique ok and even tried a few different methods with no luck so I'm left thinking it needs to grind finer.
I'm using a Gaggia Classic with pressure mod. Do you think I need shims? and also what is the procedure for attaining these shims?
