So I picked up the new grinder (Gaggia MDF) this morning and have had a wee play - I WAS supposed to open it xmas day but couldnt help myself 
Wow, what a difference, my extractions seem to be okay, 20 - 30 secs, nice crema etc etc. I was wondering if the grind was a little too fine as I seem to be getting some channelling on the top of the puck (not at the sides).
I am thinking that my grind is still a little too fine, or I am not quite putting enough coffee in the basket, though if I put in too much, I end up not being able to lock in the PF.
As I have not used a real grinder before and have only used a blade and than a very good quality hand grinder I am having to relearn this grinding pallaver all over again.
