    As requested
The Key behind the bean holder is essential as it is an over ride of the safety lock.
The pipe is 50mm plumbers pipe not retic pipe.  The full cap holds about 22gms. The modified cap holds 17gms. The duct tape is used to make a tight fit.  I have not installed a magnet filter into the pipe.  The length of pipe is optional.  It could fit any amount of beans.  I only grind on demand and sweep out the body chute. I always leave the cap on to protect the grinder cones.  I have included a picture of the changes to open the body chute so I can clear all grinds

Dumiya thanks for the pics Im looking at a way to remove the stock hopper and make it still look OK and be safe. You have given me a few good ideas.

PS what do you mean not retic pipe ?

I found the white retic pipe size was not as good a fit as the grey drain pipe. I got my pipe from my local hardware store. The caps are Plex D10550,137.50 DWV UPVC This may help get a suitable pipe. My wife initially was not impressed. The coffee quality was worth it. They can be painted or masked

I made a similar hopper from clear perspex pipe and two machined acetal plastic parts, a lid and an adapter that fits in the throat of the grinder.

                      Scary, scary, scary.

One thing to keep in mind is that these modifications all override the inbuilt safety switch which is activated by the collar. I know of at least one bloke with a dramatically shortened finger per favour of the burr augur. This was caused by exactly this modification, so BEWARE.

Might I suggest that for the sake of your digits (or those of a family member or friend), it would be far better to google modify kony hopper and design a modification which uses the existing collar and safety mechanism.

Thanks Chris I should have added this as a caveat, while I would never advise bypassing any safety switch as a rule, in this case its my own personal grinder and I chose to do so. There is of course the very real danger of injuries when the burrs are exposed and the safety is bypassed. Big conicals especially will digest rocks and not bat an eyelid.

Jono, the gauge is a dial indicator sitting on the adjustment collar, and shows the gap between the burrs in hundredths of a mm. Its not my idea originally (saw it on H-B) but I had one in a drawer and thought Id try it out. Its very useful when swapping back and forth between different machines and roasts.

Re: Mazzer Kony Electronic - Excessive Clumping

I have taken Talk Coffee to heart.
I cannot do much with the proper bean holder as I cant unfasten the black plastic collar that has the safety key from the upper clear container. So I am making a step bracket behind my pipe and will fit a plastic safety key to it and fasten the modified custom unit with a long bolt as on the original. My pipe is too narrow and long to get a hand near the grinders. My caution is that fastening of the bracket to the pipe does not have any small parts that could fall off in use into the grinders. Other than that it is almost ready to be assembled.
So unless the modified unit is fitted properly the grinders will not be able to operate.

There is a slot in the throat of the hopper and a couple of tabs hold the hopper in place within the collar body.

I have heard reports of successful removal by grabbing a couple of spare hands and using a couple of cable ties around the tabs- but do so at your own risk. It seems for each successful removal that there is another with broken tabs.
