Re: Mazzer Kony Electronic - Excessive Clumping

Yes really off the original post.
Here is my safe Kony E Mini Top! Many thanks to Talk Coffee for the caution, incentive and "I love all my fingers!"
Getting the original top off: I used a heat gun set to 100 -110 *C.
(I dont know the melt or warp temperature of the plastic). This softens the taps so they can be levered away with a small screw driver. Of course all at the owners risk. (To refit the top to the collar the tabs have to be reheated and pushed in a bit so they are held by the restricting ring of the transparent container.)
I may disguise it but it looks okay after a while. This modification uses all the original safety devises but not the magnet. In the collar there is a 50mm coupling ground down to fit so it covers the tab holes. Part of the cap is also ground down to fit into the collar as well as shortened to hold 17gms of beans.

Looks? well !!!!!! but the coffee tastes great (HWApproval).

Re: Mazzer Kony Electronic - Excessive Clumping

I have done a safety check and have put the pipe extension back on as I found I could touch the grinders. But this time the extension fits properly into the hidden coupling in the collar and overall it is very safe - I am thinking of my grandchildren.
So it looks a bit like my original pictures only now theres the original safety collar in place.

I did a similar modification to my Macap M4D but cut the bottom off a cheap stainless cocktail shaker (about $6 from the cheap shop) for the hopper.

          This polishes up really nice.

Hi Greg did you have to do anything else to make it fit or just cut it where the diameter is right?

Re: Mazzer Kony Electronic - Excessive Clumping

I wanted the extra height, and so the diameter was a bit small. I contact-cemented a ring of leather around the shaker to get a nice tight, rattle-free fit.

The fact that one of those "tin-can resealer" tops fit perfectly was just good luck.

It was really easy to do, and I reckon I spent more time polishing it up than doing the work.

                Hi all

I managed to pick up a Kony recently.

Was keen to get take the hopper out without damaging the tabs. It's way too big for home use.

Read around, and using cable ties did the trick for me.
This may be helpful to some, photos attached.

I used two table ties on one tab, and one on the other. This did take a while to loop it around the tabs.
And I got the wife to pull the hopper while I pulled out on the cable ties on both sides

Any one now whether the big hardware stores sell stand sized acrylic cylinders that would fit nicely into the collar.
and just wondering if anyone came across some click-clack top that would work for a cylinder, to push through the retained grinds.

                Love to hear your experience

                thanks
