Re: New digital timer on the Mazzer mini-E

Slightly off topic but I dont think there it a grinder out there that does volumetric (or weighted) dosing. In my not particularly engineering mind unless you could put a few fairies with itty bitty scale inside......its not something that could be done

I could be wrong though, and hipe you enjoy my lack is sense of humour

Weighed dosing?  Not Mazzers, and they wont grind into the basket, but:

      Mahlkoenig/Baratza Vario-W
      Baratza Virtuoso/Preciso with Esatto http://www.baratza.com/products-page/products/esatto/

Just following up on enquiries out of this thread.

Its looking like RRP will increase by something in the vicinity of $60-90 on the new mini-e

Now that looks like a really clever idea--dispense the grinds into a weighed container that has an auto-shut-off for the grinder itself.

The "reviews" are great, although somehow I dont see a busy bar wanting to dump from a container into the group handle every time. :P

          For home use though...

The digital mini-e is now available in Australia.

RRP $1232 (black or silver), $1375 (polished aluminium)

Re: New digital timer on the Mazzer mini-E

Yes, I received mine with the shorter hopper from Coffee Parts a few weeks ago. Here are a few pics.

I really do like this grinder, although part of me hankered for a Versalab M3. In the end, my sensible side caused me to go with the Mazzer due to its incredible build quality, reliability and back up service here and world-wide. Versalab would just have been too much of a risk had something gone wrong. So, Im pretty satisfied...for the time being.

                  Nice work chopinhauer!  8-)

I have just added a silver one to our bench at home to displace our #2 grinder (Breville Smart)...

Ill have a play with it over the next few days and report my findings on how well the time function works. I hope this one will be a keeper and previous attempts at a mini-e were moved on rapidly

One small irritation. Ours came set to a 9.5 sec double. A double looks like it might be closer to 25 sec. In 0.5 sec increments, thats 300+ pushes on the + button to get into the ballpark :

Re: New digital timer on the Mazzer mini-E

I never used the previous analogue model of the Mini E, but to me this timer, the digital, works well. The default factory settings for each were way too low. I never make singles, so I set the single to 2.5 seconds and use it to top up the double if neccessary. The double I set to 13 seconds (since my Cremina double is not that large).

The timer is very sensitive to changes in grind. The finer you go the longer you must grind to get the same amount in the portafilter. That is a good thing. Also the grind is quite fluffy and fairly clump-free (due, I guess, to the wire screen inside the exit chute).

Overall, I find it to be a big step up from the Rocky, and I am one who really likes the Rocky, although recognise its limitations. Im hoping that together my new Cremina and new Mazzer mean I dont have to upgrade for a long time time (maybe ever!!).

But that is what I said 6 years ago when I got my first, much older Cremina and Rocky, so my hopes might be delusional.

I think I have been spoiled. Its not good to get used to Robur/Kony speed. Love the new mini-e but its back at the warehouse as a demo because yours truly is impatient! I now have Dennis demo SJ-E in its place and it suits me better. :

That looks like such a nice grinder

Too bad I just upgraded to the KT3
I must try to justify to myself about the need to upgrade
