Re: Rocky choking on larger beans

    Hi
Like anything that goes into a hopper configuration, sometimes it gets stuck. I have Rocky and done 7 years with him and maybe only a few times Ive had to tap him on the side, thats it.
He is a very sturdy capable unit and maintained properly, will last you years.
    Good Luck

Thanks all for this convo. I have a Rocky - 12 months old and wondering what is going on with her. To be honest I'm still not convinced that she is all good. Took her back to retailer who tells me nothing is wrong. I'm a newbie so I believe what I'm told. But I feel that the shot is too quick and I can't get her to grind as fine as I would like. Some one suggested replacing the blades.....?

Then I am afraid someone will have to say, that the "someone" that suggested replacing the "blades" (actually "plates", or "burrs") would be way off track (assuming your rocky was new when you acquired it 12 months ago, and its only being used in a low volume (normal) home use situation).

Going only on what you have just noted here, if your shots are too quick and you cant go any finer, your problem will be in "grind / dose / tamp"....most probably you are under dosing markedly and relying on a finer than normal grind to slow down the pour to the rate that you read about in these sites...Its common enough in newcomers that havent yet got their head around what is a proper and consistent dose.

OR perhaps you may be using very very old coffee beans. The lack of coffee oils in old beans forces the operator to grind much finer than normal in order to slow down the pour and obtain a marginal crema.

Or......the grinder may be upset ! Rocky's I feel, are of the male gender and could get upset with someone referring to them as "her" or "she" !

        Hope that helps.
