That manual says clockwise for finer grind, which contradicts the picture above.

If it is the RR45 then there is a manual available for download here: http://static.zoovy.com/merchant/esp...UserManual.pdf

According to the instructions you have to make the collar adjustment with the unit running.

Grimac also have a website and they say that the manuals for their ginders will be available soon.

Thank you for the speedy replies!

luca, these large grinders all look the same to me, I wouldnt be surprised if they all came out of the same factory! This grinder really is huge, Im convinced it could be used as a wood chipper for small to medium branches. We have a cafe near our house that is always quite busy and they get by with a grinder around 2/3 the size of this. But size isnt everything right, thats my story and Im sticking to it! You are quite right about the wedge, in my case I have to push it down before the adjustment dial will move. Ill give it a run tonight and see how I go. Once Ive got this sorted its on to roasting beans, this coffee stuff is addictive!

lucinda, I was very happy with the purchase. The grinder only cost $180 delivered to Melbourne from Geelong so you cant complain at that. Im in Melbourne so I will take your advice and look for a local sponsor to perform a service. I cant believe there are no detailed instruction with such an expensive piece of equipment, surely these things must be $400 or $500 new. I guess Ill just "keep on adjusting until you find the grind that suits you"

    Thanks again,

    Greg.

Oh, and if it is anything like my Gaggia MDF, there probably isnt a manual ;D I just got a piece of paper with about 100 words of how to use the grinder - keep on adjusting until you find the grind that suits you (I kid you not)

Wow! that looks like a great grinder, I used one of these years ago and if it is the same vintage, it is as luca says (and a very good grinder). It looks like you got a bargain.

The lower the number, the finer the grind and from what I see of the grounds in the picture, that look a bit coarse to me. Also, as this is most probably fairly old, the burrs are probably a bit old nd worn, it may be a good idea to take it to someone and get it serviced and the burrs checked out. Not knowing what city you are in, I would recommend you try one of the site sponsors to check it over for you.

    Hi there, Greg,

Although the grinder is badged Grimac, Id bet dollars to doughnuts that they have just rebranded a Gino Rossi. Maybe an RR45.

To adjust the grind, there is usually a little lever near the collar that you need to press down, then you can rotate the collar left or right and let the lever back up to lock into one of the steps. It looks like the wedge on your grinder collar is indicating that the higher numbers give a coarser grind. It makes absolutely no difference what part of the grinder body you align the numbers with; its all relative. A good point of reference is usually the switch /lever thing that you have to press down to rotate the collar.

    Hope that helps,

    Luca

Can anyone help with a Grimac grinder?

    Hi all,

First time poster long time listener here. I purchased my first espresso machine around 2 years ago, a bodum granos, and its been working quite well. At first I was just buying pre-ground coffee but after some research here and elsewhere that noted grinding your own would improve the coffee experience I purchased a grinder off eBay. It is a Grimac and this sucker is HUGE. The pictures on eBay didnt do it justice and I got one hell of a surprise when it landed on my door. In fact it has to live in the garage as there is no way it would fit in the kitchen (actually I think I could make it fit but my wife thinks its too ugly

Anyway, Ive been quite happily grinding away for the last 12 months or so without making any changes to the grinder at all. I had some friends over on Christmas eve and whilst making coffee one of the noted that there wasnt much creme produced and that perhaps my grind was a little too course. Now Im open to constructive criticism so after I had disposed of his body I decided to look into his claims and have a play with the grinder. My problem is that all I received when I purchased the grinder was......the grinder. No manual, no box, nothing.

So my problem is I have no idea what to do with this grinder to change the grind.
Is a higher number finer or is a lower number finer?
Where the hell do you align the number to on the grinder body?
Im not sure if I have over-wound the grinder adjustment so Im not even sure the number even make sense any more!

Would anyone happen to have a manual for this behemoth? I would be enormously grateful for any information anyone could pass on.

    Thanks very much,

    Greg.
