  • Mazzer Super Jolly - Refurb Project

    Hi all,
Im pretty new to CS, this is probably my first official post on this forum.
I recently upgraded to Rocket Giotto Premium Plus and used Mazzer Super Jolly (bought it from a CS member)

As Im on my uni break, I though I might start a project.
I will refurbish the grinder (without buying new parts)
I will upload photos and tips as I make progress.
Please ask questions, Ill try to share some tips.
    Below is my overall plan

-Disassemble doser, burrs, small bolts and parts.
-Clean the the parts thorougly and polish (using Autosol-* * amazing product)
-Strip the old paint and sand
    -White etch primer + sand
    -Base coat (Fluro Green)
-Enamel clear coat + sand + compound

    Hopefully it will work!

    Cheers

    Limberlake

Re: Mazzer Super Jolly - Refurb Project

Ive stripped the old paint using paint stripper.
I think this is a lot more efficient than sanding...(Ive tried)
I used my RSL membership card (which I dont use) to scrape off the paint.

TIP: apply a THICK layer and try to strip as much as you can using the chemical (sanding is not fun)

After stripping the old paint, I used 160,320, 1000 sandpapers to smooth the surface. (Never use a wire brush - its too tough on aluminium).
When the surface is smooth, give it a wipe using ethanol.

It can help if you rough the original paint up with 80 grit paper before applying the paint stripper

Helps the paint stripper get penetration and means you can usually get it all the paint off with the one application

      Just a tip [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

      Looking good so far

Ill post some new photos today. Its really bright, very similar to that of an "Isocol" bottle. The paint I used was acrylic so there is no shine. but Im spraying clear coat today and wetsanding+buffing.

Yes, I couldve gone with black or the usual. I wanted people to look at the grinder and ask me questions - then I can proudly say "I painted it!".

                  - I have finished clear coat. Hopefully wetsanding and buffing will bring shine to it... :-?

Looks nice!! Would be a nice match if you could add the same colour to a few bits of the giotto that might be easy to source so you can return easily to original, eg centre of steam/water knobs.

                              Cheers
