I have owned both and the BCG is much better. It is almost stepless in adjustments which makes it much better for espresso but it can still go from plunger/filter back to espresso quick and easy. It is also much cleaner and user friendly. You can get them for around 160 170 from a few retailers now and at that price no one should stick with the em0480

Just went there as well, only 1 unit left. They are ex-demo units with no packaging at all, and the one I saw was missing the 58mm PF bracket.

But they still do come with full 12mths warranty.

If you're thinking of a manual Mazzer Mini (I have one) they can be quite messy. Do some CS searching about this very topic - there are lots of ghetto mods to make it a cleaner proposition. I've modded mine with some of the suggestions that can be found on this forum with good results - it's a highly informative forum

Loire, even with a doser grinder you are going to want to grind on demand. You shouldn't leave grinds in that doser for too long or they will be stale when you go to use them.

Thank you all for the suggestions thus far. It certainly has helped me think more about what I want in term of features. After reading some, I'm more inclined toward a doser grinder, mainly I like the fact that they are cleaner and more practical (not having to wait in anticipation).

Just wondering if CS members have any good coffee hardware sellers in Melbourne to recommend..

You need to try them out yourself. Most of the grinders in your budget range will give you a fairly comparable grind quality and grind characteristic.

    The main differences being them
    - mess they make,
    - the ease of cleaning, dismantling, servicing,
    - the amount of ground coffee retained in the burrs/chute,
    - ease of changing grind, steps or stepless?
    - overall build quality/solidness
    - aesthetics
    - speed

These comparisons are much better made in real life.

Another vote for the K3 touch. Lovely grinder. Mine hasn't skipped a beat either.

thanks for your suggestions, jkarlis. Yes this is purely for domestic use. I will check M4 out and you got me thinking about doser/doserless. Any pro and cons between the two?

The Compak K3 touch or push is well with in your budget and gives similar performance to the Mazzer mini

I've had my K3 touch for 12 months, it gets used everyday and it has given me no problems

So that could be another grinder to add to your list

The M4D is a beauty but slightly above budget. The doser version (M4) is another option and pretty similar in quality/performance to the Mazzer Mini Manual.

You can buy an entry level commercial grinder in that price range if you don't mind something big. Any of these will last you and give a quality grind.

Have you decided if you want a doser or doserless? Is it purely for domestic use?
