Like 'coffee machinist' says above I don't get Mazzer's design here at all. Before I'd even used my Robur for the first time I didn't like it.
Looks ugly, the naked doesn't sit on it snugly and grinds need to be brushed off it all the time. Although I'll put up with it, my immediate thought was to modify with the nice covered prongs like those that were on my old M4d. Stylish, functional.

Only suggested rechrome as you stated "Both the stainless Portafilter holder on the Grinder and Tamper stand have started to wear off the chrome of my portafilter at some points." thought you were concerned about appearance, my mistake.Originally posted by GrahamK View PostWhy re-chrome if you can prevent it in the first place.

Thanks for the alternative option, (and comments from others), unfortunately not really suitable for the Kony. There are "prettier" alternatives which others use such as Stick on Silicone sheets etc, or buying a tamper stand thats already protected which some sponsors have available. However I was less interested in the aesthetics, just wanted to prevent the rubbing action from wearing away the "Chrome" or "Nickle", (and to be honest I' not sure what it is - its a Giotto if that helps), and with something I already had, fitted quickly, stayed in place and does the job for me. Why re-chrome if you can prevent it in the first place.Originally posted by Seeya_Latte View PostNot sure if this applies to your Kony

Not sure if this applies to your Kony but this is the solution I came up for my Mini-E.
Clear plastic tubing readily available at any hardware store
Had it on for a couple of years and still going strong.
- Doesn’t stand out, you hardly notice it
- Doesn’t make the portafilter sit too high/close to the funnel
- Keeps the portafilter from ‘walking’ when dosing into it
Because I wanted a tight fit, the hardest part was threading it over all the bends

I'm with Trentski on this one, the pvc does look pretty industrial.
I wouldn't have expected the chrome plating on the PF to wear off, quality chrome is much harder than stainless, unless the PF is only nickel plated.
As a matter of interest you could get the PF rechromed, not a big job, should not cost much and if they are quality platers it will last for ever.

Yeah I can't fathom Mazzer's preference for stainless on those parts. Stainless vs. chromed brass, stainless will win the fight every time.
I guess they are easier to manufacture, and Mazzer don't give a rats about domestic users who want keep their group handles in nice condition. Nice solution to the problem.

Portafilter protection
I have a Kony-E which came with stainless tamper holder. Both the stainless Portafilter holder on the Grinder and Tamper stand have started to wear off the chrome of my portafilter at some points. I had recently bought some PVC Pinchweld from Clark Rubber and found it to be ideal for fitting into the cutouts of the Portafilter holder and Tamper stand as shown. If anyone is interested they have various sizes and you can by it by the metre, so was not expensive.
