Mazzer mini-e makes my top 2 for hopeless bang for buck in the <$1.5k category. We no longer offer them for sale as I don't want to sell gear I don't believe in.

For mine, they'd offer good value at $700.

I would say something is not quite right there. I have a Mazzer Mini E and I have the double set at 24.05secs and get 23gms of coffee. Coffee is Costa Rica Tarrazu Guadalupe at about CS7.

Big fan of the Macap grinders. I install, train, maintain and repair all models. Saving my gold coins for a MXD.

Were you throwing beans individually into the hopper?

I have never used one but have read that they are quite slow, but surely something is not quite right with that one, should be at least twice as fast I would have thought?

    Cheers

I'm coming back to this thread 2+ years after I mentioned my initial experiences and notice that others have shared comments pretty much inline with my original experience, so I can also faithfully report nothing has changed since then!

2.5 years on and the Macap that Chris sold us is still running perfectly, - and let's be honest here - Do you expect that it would even have an issue? The only thing I could see causing this grinder a problem is if someone put gravel in the hopper instead of beans and tried to grind that.

Even then I can envisage the powder coming out to be an even consistency - but I'm not sure about the results in the cup....

The one thing I will subjectively mention though.... the Macap in chrome looks a whole lot better than a Mazzer in silver. Everyone who comes into our kitchen immediately looks at it and mentions it. So, that's a win too

I also looked up grind speeds of the Mazzer mini E and Macap MD4. The Macap grinds at 2 grams per second and the Mazzer at snails pace - 1 gram per second.....

Fair point above Chris. It's pretty close to a super jolly. I thought the MXD was faster though, with bigger burrs. More than happy to be corrected if it's not.
