  • Problem setting grind notch on Rancilio Rocky

Hi. Got a near new Rocky today and it only seems to be able to be set at around 0.8 and 4

I pulled the hopper off the top and its a very simple mechanism. A series of little holes around
the bottom of the hopper and the little press button has a pin that comes up and sits in the holes.
Everything appears to be fine. The button is travelling all the way up and down and the little pin
is fine, not bent or anything but it still not locking in on anything other than the two settings above?

I noticed the two places where it is stopping the little hole in that area has been broken open a little.
I did the same thing on the area I wanted it to stop and it worked a treat, now stops in two extra
places where I opened the hole up a bit

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas? I pulled the hopper on and off 4 times and every
thing seems to be as it should be?

    When you say "near new"...
    How old?
    Who had it before you?
What modifications might they have made? EG: There is a mod to make this a stepless grinder - perhaps this has been done.

If I recall from when I had my Rocky, there was a screw in place somewhere that could stop the movement of the hopper, but mine certainly had a range of movement from less than 0 to greater than 30. Sounds like something has been done to it.

Thanks for your comments but I am aware of all these factors. The stopper screw is in place so the hopper cant go below zero.
There are no mods, its a very basic, if not primative mechanism. A little pin comes up and sits in the holes under the hopper.
All looks good except the button/pin doesn't seem to want to sit in the holes. Something is obviously out of alignment somewhere

OK then. You are aware of these factors and don't wish to share any further info. We'll leave it at that. Good luck.

Share what? You want to know who owned it? You think you might know them or that will make a difference?

No. If it is near new, then it is UNDER WARRANTY!
If you know the previous owner, you have access to proof of purchase.

            Silly things like that.

Oh dear god! I seldom get involved with forums because of people like you, and I will probably get kicked off here because
              of this but here goes.....

"oh warranty! Of course, why didn't I think of that"? I wish I would have thought of that before I made my detailed
post. Thank you for pointing that out to me. Clearly I am an imbecile. Lucky you came along with no
real clue or anything positive to offer but a bunch of "if a tree falls in the forest" rhetoric (google it)
Do you really think everyone else in the world is that stupid?

You clearly have no clue what I am talking about so why mess up a clear reasonable post with a lot of
useless twaddle stating the obvious. You're a senior member? No doubt from 3000 worthless posts similar to this.

Wow, the best fix here is to sit down, have a coffee, and get your bank card out and find a repair/service tech that works on them. The only way somebody would try and help you after such a rude and arrogant rant like that is if they were charging you s#%t loads of money.

                  Ha. What a classic.
The troll goes wild. Good luck.

                    ...and the chorus sings "
so say all of us" - ( google it! )

A helpful, respected member of the community who has owned one of these grinders asks some questions so he can assist you and the best you can manage is a tantrum.

I think the real reason you don't visit forums is that it always ends like this.
There could be a pattern there and I doubt the problem is the forums.
