  • "Diamond" Compak K6 - stepped or stepless?

    Hi all,

I am looking at buying my first grinder to upgrade from my manual hand-grinder.

I've been doing a lot of research on the CS forums and was pretty certain on the Compak K3 Push.
However I have since found a Compak K6 2nd hand for about the same price but it has "Diamond" written on the doser.
I haven't been able to find much information on what the differences are from just a straight-up Compak K6, or whether it's just a distribution naming thing?

I did find one post on this site mentioning that the buyer found out it was Stepped adjustment but I can't find any manufacturer spec to verify it.

Any advice would be appreciated or comments on whether there are any other differences i need to know about?

Im pretty excited about the prospect of a decent grinder so want to get it right.

    Thanks a bunch in advance

I have a Diamond grinder, and from what I've been able to find its a distribution thing. All the compak's I've had (3/6/10) have all been step less.. They all have the grind adjustment ring ( screw type adjustment ) where the hopper joins at the top of the unit.. I was not able to find any compak's of recent that are stepped..but is there any chance you could have a play with it before you buy it. Was the compak on gumtree recently.

Pretty bummed out, it WAS on gumtree until 3 minutes ago then I got a response from the seller to say it was bought just after i posted here.
Oh well, back to the K3 i guess. Thanks for the reply anyhow.

I'd personally go the k3 over the k6 for home ( a lot smaller )... You won't notice any difference in grind quality ( same type of burrs just diff size ) and grinding straight into the basket is fantastic..
There are/where a few mazzers on gumtree as well.. A little more expensive though.

        Best of Luck

          Another vote for K3.
I love the step less adjustment- you can "tweak" the grind as required.
          You won't be disappointed.

Thanks guys. Im feeling a little less down about missing the sale now. Whoever got the K6 seems to have got a real bargain at $300, it went cheaper than i thought.
Has anyone got feedback on the few reports i've read about the adjustment of the K3 being fickle or having a bit of "play" in it?

As long as you adjust the grind with the grinder running and fine tune / little tweaks with beans in there, then the adjustment is very accurate and you can dial in to your preferred shot within a bees .......

Thanks for that. Nice tip to know. I just assumed you shouldn't adjust whilst it's operating so it sounds like dialling it in will be at least a little easier than i thought.
