Sorry to bump an old thread, but this shows in Google. There's a recess to the shaft (as you've said, custom. Not as aggressive as a torx), but the handle is a standard hex driver. A 5.5m hex bit fits in the handle with the same amount of play (a surprisingly large amount). If I find 5mm works better I might remember to come back here and edit this.

I don't believe the Comandante uses a standard hex shaft - looks to be a custom shape closer to a torx bit. Probably to avoid people hooking it up to drills

If it's European it will be metric so try a 6mm hex nut driver, if that's too large try the next smaller which will be 5.5mm. Yes that's an odd size but its also the standard hex head on an M3 bolt.

The standard hex drive is 1/4" = 6.35mm. Blame the Seppoes.

I actually did try to hook up my electric screwdriver and found out that the shaft is actually smaller than the actual standard hex.
I might pop by Bunnings to look for an adaptor.

    Hi Gavin.

Haven't motorised a Comandante but it would be a very simple proposition as the Comandante has a hex drive shaft.

You would need to make a disc cover to stop bean hoppers, but a small electric drill can be either connected direct to the shaft or by use of a suitable hex driver.

A 12volt Ozito 2 speed driver with battery and charger can be had from the big green shed. I got one recently for $40 and it has enough grunt to do the job on similar size hand grinders. It also allows plenty of speed control.

Resurrecting a very old thread, wondering if anyone have tried something creative with an adaptor so the C40 is hooked up to a low torque electric screw driver?
Would love to speed up my very slow arms in the early morning so I can grind slightly faster - don't get me wrong I don't intend to spin it at thousands of RPM that it will burn the beans or even wreck the burrs.

The great thing with the Lido is not having to take off the handle to fill it up - but that Commandante sure does look nice

Ha! True. Compact (and wood style) would be the reason I'd go a Comandante - but I'm curious about the smoother action.. That surprises me. Is the larger handle part of that do you think? I've only had a hands on with a Lido, so I'm keen to get your impression on the difference in the arms.

If (when if I'm honest) I end up with one of these lifelong hand grinders - I suspect it'll probably be a Lido, as much as I love the look of the Comandante.

    Hard one Al,

As a traveller, it's Comandante for me now as it's more compact and the action is also smoother. I wouldn't mind to see the glass jars go and be replaced by antistatic plastic though as they will inevitably lead to heartbreak.

At home for manual methods, the Lido still wins for me due to the more rapid throughput and much larger capacity.

It's a killer decision as they're all so good- but if I had to choose just one as my only hand grinder, I think for me it would have to be the Lido E-T.

I am thankful that I don't have to choose!

Thanks for clarifying Chris. So the Lido is still your recommended go-to?

I use my porlex at work. It drives me crazy. At least 100 revs to get 20gms through. Are these things way faster? Or just a bit?

Pretty excited, just ordered one of these to keep me occupied while I'm on the road. I've been drinking Moccona all year because my local coffee shop pulls an offensive brew, so probably 12 months too late but I'm interested to see how it goes.
