  • Sunbeam EM0480 grinder questie

I have the chance of getting a new Sunbeam EM0480 at a very good price, to replace my Solis 166.
I note it has two basket holders; one for a 58mm portafilter, the other a 53mm.
How fast can these be changed? I have two coffee machines, one of each of these sizes, which I want to keep using regularly.
Could I keep the 58mm holder in place, and just hold the 53mm portafilter within that space, or does the bracket operate a power-switch? I dont want to have too much hassle changing the bracket every day if its a long job...
    Thanks

You dont really need to have them connected at all. I dont. I just use the manual switch and move the PF around to collect the grounds... its less messy this way.

And the bracket just slides on and off anyway so its not a big deal if you did want to swap between the two...

As Beanmeister said its a 2 second job, they just slide upwards.

I leave them off, as well, switch it to auto, press the button and fill the basket while moving it around.

Make up a juice container grounds catcher if you get a chance, these grinders are rather messy, and I have found the grounds rather clumpy as well. My grounds catcher fits where the portafiller attachement is so I think it would be hard to fit the portafiller attachement on anyway...

My advice is buy the best grinder you can afford, with replaceable parts... If you are anything like me, as soon as you get this grinder, (eventhough it is good, and does the purpose), you will want something more...Something shiny, something without incremental grind settings...

          Best of Luck.

like tmid, I have a Presso and EM0480 (home), and also a Presso and EM0450 (work).

I use the PF basket without the handle on auto to trigger the button, and tap it at the base during grinding to level it off and light compact, so no need for the PF holders... unless you dont mind wasting a heap of coffee and grinding until it is a mountain heap, loads of overflow, and tamping that down.

We have a ceramic bowl set that fit perfectly by chance under the switch and arc to fit the body and catches most grind. A glass bowl would be nice. The 50 has a good low-key setup for work, loose plastic mat larger than the 80 fixed base, doesnt catch everything so still do the desk hand-wipe.
