Here is a report on my blind taste test- comparing the Mazzer Major (2007 Auto Doser model- not Electronic) and the 2013 Mazzer Mini electronic. I have read a few threads on other sites which say there is no difference in the cup between the Major and the Mini. Let me correct those that say this. The Major produces a superior grind and the taste is markedly better than the Mini.
I found that the Major has ZERO clumping issues- consistent fluffy grinds is what it produces. Whereas the Mini, even with the static screen in place, clumps markedly, and needs quite a bit of levelling off before being ready for extraction. The crema produced from the Major puck is much more full bodies than the Mini puck, and the blonding sets in later with the Major.
Then comes the (blind) taste test. The Major cup has more layers, more body, and a sharper taste with more definition. The Mini Cup, whilst also excellent, was much less defined, and lacked the subtle flavours of the Major.
Do others out there have similar experiences? I would love to hear the views of others. I know that my mind is definitley made up in favour of the Major.
