  • em 480 to bgc 820

Gday everyone, as the title suggests thinking about doing this.
Is it a good upgrade? or do the more experienced think i would be better to save a bit longer and get something better.
    Cheers

I think this will yield similar grind quality, perhaps a smidge better? The main improvement will be less/no mess and a bit quieter, with some convenient dosing features, slightly better control of grind fineness.

So in my opinion more of an upgrade in convenience rather than grind quality.

    Cheers

      Cheers artman.
I have noticed that myer have a good deal at the moment, buy a bgc 800 and get a free bgc 820. That is what got me asking first before i bought.
Sort of had a inkling that what you had said was the case.

i think you will find on some of the threads here the variations on emo480's. some spin faster than others, some yield good results and some dont. the breville hasn't had those problems reported - the only problem i can think of is varied number of shims required to get it to work well with espresso - but once you do, seems to work a treat.

the other plus sides artman has already covered most of - less mess, less grind retention and better fineness control - which, really, are huge improvements for dialing in a great shot.

Hey artman, was this a typo? get a free grinder with the purchase of a grinder?

That wasn't me, that was hoolahoopa stating that. But yes I would say a typo, perhaps HH meant buy bes800 get bcg820 free?

            Cheers

appears to be the case... look it up on the myer site. i thought it was odd too, but they wouldnt be putting the 800 on the list if they were just upgrading it to the 820?

Breville | Smart Grinder BCG800 | Myer Online

I did call a store up today and they called back after clarifying it, apparently buy one get one free from what they could work out.

Sorry about that artman... I'll give my local myers a call tomorrow. Perhaps they're trying to clear out the older models...

Sorry for the new post... couldn't find an edit button...

I rang the Bondi Junction store in Sydney and they told me that the promo was online only and they didn't know anything about it.

I've got a feeling it was a mistake, but have ordered online anyway. Delivery is free and I can return it if it doesn't come with the 820.

For those interested, I received my order today.

Only the bcg800 was in it the box unfortunately. I have noticed that my online order page has:

                        1 item(s) Backordered

                        1 item(s) In transit

So I may still get it. I've sent Myer an email to find out.

How'd you go with that order JmeT? I advised my friend to purchase the same deal, he went thru with the checkout and paid. Then called up about the colours of the grinder getting delivered and they said that it was a typo and are trying to refund him the money. It was meant to be with one of the coffee machines and get a free grinder.

My mate is an avid arguer, he will turn purple before he doesn't receive a second grinder for free haha! Very amusing for me

I too was told that it was a mistake and that the offer would not be honored. I didn't really argue with the the rep as I thought that it was a mistake so didn't want to take advantage of the situation. I did get a $20 voucher which was nice.
