Mazzer Major Grocery?

I am just wondering about this grinder and wondering what compromises have been made to get it at the current price point. The 83mm burrs seem attractive and I'm guessing it will be fast and the price isn't much more than a mini. I can't find much info on this grinder.

Easy one. Dosers represent $$$ and the grocery doesn't have one. The Major grocery is therefore cheaper. As in the Macap MC4, avalanching of coffee may well be an issue with this grinder as it's designed to have a bag attached to it.

Just a clarification on something above.

Unless someone with the requisite qualifications has done a properly organised comparative cupping experiment between a Mini and a Major, that has produced definitive and significant differences in cup quality between them, where one is much "better" quality than the other rather than just different and where both are "good", then the only "attractive" thing about having 83 mm grinding plates over 58 mm of similar design, is the speed of delivery in a shop / commercial situation.

If the grinder is for home use, then I cant see any "attractiveness" and there is very possibly a case for the Major to be in fact less attractive, due to its greater size in the home kitchen for no apparent gain.

There probably isnt much information about the grocery model on the net, because its not really a dedicated shop type grinder and there would be very few out there atleast in Australia, where there arent all that many shops selling bulk coffee. Roasteries with higher volumes (than you might expect in a shop type situation) are more likely to use bigger, more dedicated type commercial bench grinders that have more to them (for the purpose) than what may essentially be a cafe grinder with doser unit removed, which was only originally intended for grinding in short "bursts" in a cafe environment, rather than grinding larger volumes without getting hot...

So true TOK. These are all planar burr grinders and the buyer purchases, speed, the presence or absence of a doser, a timer and whether any fitted timer is digital or analogue. Thereafter, any perceived difference in the cup will come down to variation in dose and distribution. Statistically, I term it placebo effect.
