  • HG one

    Hi,

I'm interested in getting a HG one grinder for espresso and filter. I want to ask for opinion from people who have one. Also, do you guess pay any GST when u purchase it from the state? It costs $946 US for the grinder now and I'm planning to get the blind tumbler and the funnel wiper. The total cost (included shipping) will be $1320 AUD. Is that mean I have to pay GST?

    Thanks,

    Tony.

Can't help with the grinder question but can tell you anything imported privately over $1000 will have GST and import duty applied. Will probably add 15%-20% to your purchase price. You will also have to pay an import processing fee. This link explains more.

I have heard of people not being charged the GST etc (it was in camera gear) but I think that it to do more with luck. So bank on it being charged, if they don't for whatever reason then that's a bonus.

      Cheers

I've posted a number of times regarding how happy I am with the HG one. I've had it for about a year now and don't feel the need to change grinders at all. Most importantly I find it incredibly consistent, I now have a really good feel for what fineness of grind I need for a particular type of bean and for how far past roast date it is. Incidentally I didn't get charged GST, but as per previous posters expect I was just lucky.

I love mine; it's a fantastic grinder and the 2014 changes have made it even better. Be aware that the blind tumbler and one funnel wiper are included with the grinder.

It's luck of the draw whether the consignment is noticed and charged duty/GST; should be looking at ~15% of the total, including shipping.

O I didn't realise the blind tumbler and funnel wiper are included. Anyway is there anyone from Melbourne that can let me have a try to make a few coffees with the grinder? I'm happy to bring some beans along with me. Wanna to try for espresso and filter. I can also bring my filter gears with me.

I received one earlier this year (one of the last of the older model).

Overall delivered price was similar to yours and it came straight through. I suspect it is luck of the draw.

I am extremely happy with the grinder, haven't used my Mini Mazzer since receiving it.

HG-One is great for single dosing as there is little to no retention of grinds. Build quality is awesome too. It is quite a visual piece on the bench top.

The only downside for me is that I personally find it cumbersome for multiple back to back shots (it's quite a workout) so I switch back to the Mazzer SJ at times.

$1000 for a hand grinder with burrs that are over $200 a set? You'd sure have to be pretty keen.

No regrets here. Quality comes at a price.

Same here - excellent grinder for home use. Love using it everyday.

For the OP - I got mine end fo 2013: $904.95 for the grinder and 237.69 for postage. No other charges.

For that much money you think it'd come with a motor to wind the handle.

Not quite. If you want something motorized that produces similar grind quality you'll be looking at Robur, Kony, K10 etc. Have you checked the price of those?
