I've been using a Breville smart grinder for a bit over a year now, with a Lelit PL60V2. I've decided it's time to upgrade. The main reason for the upgrade for me is lack of stepless grinding. I do like a few things about the Breville, including:
The rest that holds the group handle while you go and do something else
Compact footprint and low height
Pop out base for cleaning
The push to grind setup
I've never used any of the electronic functions which are confusing and odd IMO. The visual display is weird and the grind setting knob moves in too big increments, adn the display doesn't move exactly as the knob moves.
My general process is to put my dose in the hopper and run it through into the portafilter in two goes, to avoid clumping. I neve store beans in the hopper. I only run about two coffees in the mornign and one in the arvo.
I'm not sure if the K3 or Mazzer are better for my needs, or just better overall, I would obviously have to change how I do things with the Mazzer mini manual, given the doser. I had read it was a bit of a pain to get all of the dose to go through without wastage or stale grinds on the next day, but everyone seems to think its a great grinder. The K3 seems good but different process I guess. Much better pricing, seems Mazzer prices have gone up again since I last researched it. I would probably consider alternatives but these two I have come up based on the research I've done.
appreciate any thoughts. cheers.
