I had the honour of meeting Doug and Barb at MICE this morning and came away with a present! We have twins!
It's one of four in Australia and was assembled by Doug himself.
They are going into production soon and will be coming to Australia in due course.
All bits are interchangeable between models as well. There is some great stuff in the pipeline for Lido users.

Must be his birthday!
That canister looks good - the glass one still unsettles me a little…
It is a cracking grinder. I often use it for espresso when I just want to sample a shot of something that's not 'in the hopper' at the time, or something straight out of the roaster - and I'd be hard pressed to pick it flavour wise from the big dog
And it is pretty fast - only about 20secs to grind 25g for the triple basket. Don't know if the M4 was that much quicker…
Look forward to your thoughts on the OE3 in use Chris!

I used it for an Aeropress this afternoon.Originally posted by DesigningByCoffee View PostLook forward to your thoughts on the OE3 in use Chris!
Initial thoughts: Nice! You notice the difference in mass (1kg v 1.5kg for the Lido 2) and the new antistatic catch jar works well.
Doug informed that they have swapped from an Italian burr set to a Swiss made one with better tolerances. This modified burr produces an easier and smoother grinding action.
As for the 2, it's another gorgeous grinder and the results in the cup are identical. I personally purchased my Lido 2 pretty much for the handle design which I love and some of that had to go to make the 3 more portable. I get that but love the beautiful curves of the 2.
I guess there will ultimately be many variations out there as all bits are interchangeable.
Doug and Barb have the intention of releasing all of the parts required for this grinder to be whatever Lido grinder the end user chooses.

Looking forward to seeing the Lido3 tomorrow. I agree with Chris's thoughts above regarding the handle and curves of the Lido2. For me it's solid and feels good in the hand and it grinds the beans beautifully.

I'm constantly impressed by the Lido!
Just had a fabulous double ris of a blend I roasted Saturday, a Brasil plus Kenyan, both of which are quite distinctive flavours.
I decided to use the Lido as I only had a small amount of leftover beans (say 100g) which would get lost in the bigger grinder, so wanted to get a clear flavour profile. And the flavours I'm getting easily align with that of the conical, especially with the Kenyan clearly in my mind from the last batch I roasted.
I could clearly define both the spicy zing of the African and and the sweetness & body of the brasil, and there was no bitterness in the shot even though it was ground slightly too fine and gave a pretty slow pour a.k.a "over-extracted" to the purists
which is something I really appreciate about the big dog too.
Yes, it is quite a workout on espresso settings for 25g, and it is a little messy and fiddly. And doing a dinner party would be a challenge!
But if you really want to know what kind of flavour profile a grinder like a Kony or Robur (or dare I say - maybe even an EK43) would give you at home for espresso - for the price this little grinder truly delivers the goods!
Well done OE

No Lido 3 jars yet as they are only just about to go into production. Sanatarium peanut butter jar is the quick fix.Originally posted by Twistedpear View PostPicked up a Lido 2 at MICE a few weeks back.
Dropped the jar on a tiled floor yesterday!
Wondering if anyone knew of anywhere local (I'm in Melbourne) that sold replacement jars (or even the Lido 3 jars!)?

Hi
ive just been given $200 birthday money!!!!!
for Gaggia classic duties at work, plus presso duties when travelling (rare), is there any way I would regret going for a lido 2?
Currently using a porlex for the above duties. Not getting the best out of the coffee, but am satisfied that its better than nothing / average takeaway coffee.
Is there a midrange/ a step up from those mini grinders that I should consider? Like the one that starts with z?
i do love the look of the lido/ particularly the 2 , but am also drawn to a grinder that I would call "Deledio #3"!
And what I read on this thread is very encouraging.
interested in any additional thoughts.

No.Originally posted by shortblackman View Post…is there any way I would regret going for a lido 2?
Be aware that it is big and heavy, so don't really expect a "carry to work on the train / carry on luggage" type hand grinder - but you already have one of those if needed, and know its limitations.
But for all manual brews and espresso, and for holiday duties, the cupping results and consistency of the Lido are superb.
And for the price? I reckon the Lido is is the 'midrange' hand grinder, but it is almost in a class of its own. What's the next step up in hand grinders?
HG One or Pharos? Not hand grinders.
Commandante? Look great - but a bit like the unicorn… who uses them or sells them?
Rosco? Truly beautiful, harder to get beans in, smaller to hold but then also slower to use and twice the price (I was looking seriously at one of these until the Lido came out).
Lido 3? Chris will get them soon… they'll be lighter, but more expensive!
So for the price, I couldn't see any better options…
Happy birthday
