\Most people here are a little more paranoid when it involves modding and electricity. Not sure why. But if you know what you're doing and take enough safety measure, I'd say go ahead.
Regardless of what individuals might take it upon themselves to do or not, there are rules and laws which apply in each state when 240V is involved. You kill yourself- that's just bad luck or another Darwin award nomination. Kill somebody who might touch your modified gear and that's a whole different law suit. Best advice is always tread very, very carefully.
I'm also of the opinion that, generally speaking, those who are comfortable with DIY are also confident and resourceful and
don't generally post up questions asking how to do it.... they just get on with it.
So it follows that those who urge caution are responding to the vulnerability sometimes evident in the ' how do I do it?' and 'what is this for?' questions.
And Samuel, you're right.... no-one posts up " xyz, or else you're not one of us" but ( and not wanting to labour the point), humiliation is the most common form
of bullying there is.
Not everyone did electrical engineering at school....... cheers. :-D
Cheers Chokki, you're right. :-P Now that I read again, the first post did give a clueless face(didn't do enough research) and the response to that is understandable.
I didn't do EE(degree) at school either. We had a compulsory Life Skill subject in jr high school(really) in Malaysia, and I learned my very basic electric/electronics there. I have no clue about the education system in Oz and probably shouldn't have assumed it's the same.
Regardless, anyone who's dealing with electricity should take the fullest safety measure. That, I think everyone will agree. :-D
Hi guys! Yes, i wouldn't do anything risky. I can understand that my first question made people think that ai was totally clueless, but that's not the case. :-)
I agree that you must be super careful with the electrics and follow rules.
How ever, my pictures don't show anything else than a step in progress and wouldn't let my grinder look like that ehen it's finished. Off course do I unplug the machine before operating. :-)
I think useful help and guidens would suit better than mean comments.
Hey folks, off course was it just for testing. The cables are to be secured properly. No need to be rude. ;-)
It's not finished yet. Work in progress.
G'day Swede...
You didn't make this clear earlier and even if you had, I would still be urging you to make sure that no-one else could gain access to the grinder while it is in this condition. Some of us do have the relevant qualifications, licenses, etc and may even have witnessed the very unfortunate outcomes that such jury rigged electrics can inflict upon the unwary and/or innocent. You have to be very careful that you don't appear to be recommending work such as this, as the unwary or unknowledgeable (in this field) may try to emulate what you have demonstrated in this forum, to their personal detriment.
