Can't a single dose simply be achieved by tipping the measured beans straight into the standard hopper, and then grinding them all out, and sweep / pick / snort / blow / jiggle / vibrate / vacuum or levitate all the grounds out of the chute? That's what I used to do with my M4 (bar the levitation)…
The main reason for a micro hopper is to allow you to keep some weight on top of a much smaller amount of beans to 'fool' the grinder into behaving like it's got a full hopper, giving a more even grinding (my micro hopper holds about 100g - with about 75g retention in the burr set
).
But in reality you're never going to make the most of this micro-hopper technique 'single dosing' with an exact measure of beans anyway - half are into the burr cavity even before you start, and the weight/tamp will stop applying any pressure long before the beans run dry! You'll always need more than a 'single dose' for this method to work…
So maybe measure an extra 2g, run it all through, sweep out as much as you can, and enjoy your brew!
Cheers Matt
Just a slightly amusing story - I know a bloke who used to strip down his grinder to the burrs every time he made a coffee - that's a guaranteed way to avoid retention and get 18g in / 18g out!
