Help my compak k3 touch grind not fine enough

Hi ,

I just purchased a new compak k3 touch and found that the grinder can not grind to fine size. I went through few posts in this website and did the following action:

- I removed the top part and clean the burr and its surrounding area
- I tried move the regulation from coarse to fine very slowly while turn on the manual mode (Nothing come out on the fine side, so i slowly moving back to coarse side then "They" come out finally but very coarse"

HELP, what should i do to fix this problem?

Can anyone can help me?

That seems a little unusual for a K3 - what beans are you using? Sometimes stale, oily beans can produce issues like that (the burrs trying to grab oily beans like catching a greasy pig!) I wouldn't think it would be the grinder though… especially if it's brand new.

I am using the roasted bean from Jetblack Coffee (Balance bean). Yes, my machine is brand new. My friend told me that when i pull out for cleaning and put it back on incorrect position (burr is not engaged properly). I will try to remove the burr again tonight and put it back...

I bought one of these at MICE. Got an awesome deal from Emma. I doubt its the grinder at all. These things can grind so fine its not funny!!

To be honest, Im actually having a hard time dialing in the grinder.. Somewhere between 30 and 35 seem to be the ball park I think.. Does anyone have any recommendations to perfect it?

Shouldn't be a bean issues then – but odd that you had trouble before you pulled the burr set out too?

Im pretty sure you need to take the 3 hex nuts out to remove the black plastic cover. Then it will reveal another hex nut and there shoild be a couple of holes next to it. Pretty sure the hole the hex nut is in is so you can wind the grimder any lower than it already is. Somewhere in this forum there is a pictorial on how to do this. You need to take out the hex nut which acts as a stop and replace it in one of the other holes allowing you to lower the grind to a finer grind. Take care doing this.. Might pay to check thr fprum for the pictorial. Cheers Chris

Find the point at which you choke your machine with a normal dose, then back off a couple of 'numbers'. fine tune from there. Also be aware that there is a bit of 'play' in the collar mechanism, and it is easy for an empty K3 to 'chirp' at a setting at which (with beans in it) it is certainly not 'burr on burr'. Proceed cautiously and you'll be right.

BTW, the raw numbers on the collar can be misleading...not necessarily comparable across grinders (particularly if the upper burr has been taken off for cleaning and replaced).
