Macap MXA - 3D Printed Doser Mod

Discovered a rather large design flaw the morning i went to use this haha, forgot my Macap has a vertical metal rod that agitates the grinds inside the dosing chamber. Options were either remove the metal rod, or tweak the design.
Here's v2, added extra support material for the mount points (they are now 2.5mm thick), and space for the rod to pass through when dosing. The lid, although visually nice, is not overly functional - so i'll likely run without.

It's on the printer now

Good question, i bought this MXA second hand a few years ago and the previous owner had already converted it to stepless. Happy to take some pictures if you wanted to see how it was done, but other than that i'm not too sure sorry!Originally posted by jjjones View Postnice work mate. I don't own a printer but have had a coffee part (also for a grinder) printed by a company in the Rocks in Sydney. It's just a fantastic resource and it's otherwise so hard to get something bespoke done if you don't personally have wood- or metal working skills.

I printed these out of PLA, and there isn't too much structural support in the prints - so this is quite flexible. However as it really only has to direct grinds, i don't imagine it'll be an issue.Originally posted by artman View PostHow strong are these printed parts ?
For other prints, it's possible to make them surprisingly strong if designed properly, and i can also print ABS - So it's got quite a bit of flex too.

If we have enough interest in 3D parts we can also make a new section in the forum for them. It might encourage sharing and tweaking between people in the CS community even if they don't have a 3D printer, they might have some good ideas or design skills.
I'll have to have another look at SketchUp, a friend recommended it a while ago and I installed it, opened it... and shuddered. (quietly closed it and didn't go back).

Perfect, thanks Andy! I'll add them to Thingiverse too, so that's easy for others to find too.
I drew using SketchUp, just the free version. Then there's a plugin (also free) that gives a direct .stl export.
First print is almost ready!
