Grinder upgrade

Hi all,
I am looking to upgrade from a Rocky doserless. My question is, what is the next step i.e. what would be the best stepless (no pun intended ;-)) grinder to up-grade to? Macap 2 or 4 , Mazzer mini, Compak? There are many opinions. My budget is around $800- $1000.
Also, I would be open to any advice about the transition from a stepless to a step grinder.

any pointers about going from a step to a stepless grinder? Is there much of difference between the two types?

The Macap M4D is the front runner at the moment. But I think I will have to look out for when it is on special somewhere.

any other grinders that are worth a considering?

It's my bang for buck choice at circa $1k by a country mile.

Providing you don't have a pre requisite for warranty or shipping boxes, there is a nice Mazzer Major Electronic in the for sale section that is probably overkill, but would keep all your expectations satisfied.
....if you have the bench space !

The only reason I sold mine was the move from home coffee to professional coffee which dictated the need for a commercial conical.

The Macap M4D is simply a great grinder; build quality, grind quality, great design and the results are 'in the cup'.

East to use, quieter and quicker than the Mazzer and if grind retention is one of your things...... it wins there too.
