  • Thoughts on ECM Casa Grinder

    Hi all,

I looking for any reviews or feedback on the ECM Casa grinder if anyone has one please. I'm looking at a new machine purchase soon and looking at a grinder for prosumer home use. Certainly won't be a high volume user but looking for a quality grind.

I have looked at the Mini Mazzer and Compak Elite WBC but there won't be enough bench space for these units so looking at something a bit smaller. If no good one of the bigger units will have to be placed in the walk in pantry and used from there.

    Any thoughts?

    G'day Dean...

ECA here in Oz have an identical grinder in their lineup without the ECM badge. Some ECM badged grinders are also around and you may be able to get some hands-on testing at one or more of our Site Sponsor establishments, e.g. Jet Black or Silipo Coffee to help with the decision making...

Pretty sure the ECM Best grinder is/was highly thought of and don't see any reason why others in their range wouldn't be up to the mark.

    Mal.

I have one of these and I'm happy with it. It is compact in size and has a unique look which I like. The burrs are only 50mm but supposedly 'run cool' with the direct drive motor (and sit on a big brass block).

Consider however it is a stepped grinder. A user here recently posted a trick whereby you can double the number of steps by filing a slot in the pin holder - I converted mine to stepless with teflon tape.

To be honest, if buying new the grinder seems a little overpriced compared to the functionality of a Compak K3. However if you're looking for small size its a good bet, and will perform better than the comparable Rancilio Rocky.

Yes, you're spot on there mate. Seem quite pricey for what they are...

A much better buy in my opinion, for a small footprint decent grinder is a "Eureka Mignon Electronic". Not sure if any of the Site Sponsor's sell them (CosmoreX used to) but there are a few reputable retailers around that do and a Google Search will turn those up...

I purchased the Eureka Mignon from a local supplier approx. 12 months ago and am very happy with it.
Jetblack have them listed on their website.

Thanks all ... certainly given me something to think about. Off to the Coffee Experience this weekend so I'll see what I can find there.
