  • Fiorenzato F4e nano owners

My old favourite K3 touch died yesterday and the only local supplier of good grinders mainly had the high end grinders. eg SJ etc. but they did have a fiorenzato F4e on display. The salesman gave me a demo (and a good price) and it appeared quite good. I went home and did some research and it had good reviews overseas but not much here including this site. In desperation I bought it. After getting it home and dialing in I was very impressed. Consistent grind, no clumping and consistent dosage using the programmable buttons. It has one feature I really liked. When you hold the continuous button the display shows the time of the dosage. As I like 20gms in a double and 13gms in a single, I held the continuous button down until I reached the desired weight. It then displayed the exact time I dosed. I then set the two programmable buttons for singles and doubles using the times displayed. So setting the dose was dead easy. I only had to adjust the grind to get in dialed in.

I'm interested in other owner opinions, particularly how to get rid of that annoying display that cycles through how many doses you've had for the day, week and its life. The manual is terrible. It says to change the "stats" display you hold down the one cup button but every time you do that it, it dispenses a single dose. I found on an overseas site that the manual is wrong and you need to press the single and double button at the same time. Having figured all that out I still couldn't change the display.

Anyway first impressions and really good for an electronic grinder well under $1000. I'd love to hear from other owners on its reliability, performance and any tips or tricks.

Nothing wrong with these grinders mate, built to full on commercial standards and widely used throughout Europe....

I can't remember the actual arrangement but I think Macap manufacture the grinders for Fiorenzato...

Having owned a Macap M4D, I was very pleased to read your last sentence, Mal, as I rate the Macap as one of the best home grinders out there.

Hi Barri , one of my grinders is a Fiorenzato F6 , it's built like a tank and grinds well , your F4e should be really good too, they get a great rap overseas and l'm sure they will here once people get to know the brand

OK one year on. This grinder is the messiest grinder I've ever used. If you don't use a funnel or "coffee catcha" your bench will be covered in grinds. It also throws left when grinding. Had I known this and not needing a new grinder in a hurry and it was on special I wouldn't have bought it. Anyone got one of these that has fixed this problem??? BTW to its credit it is consistent from both time and particle size and it is well built but the mess annoys me.

How does it deal with static? It seems like it has a reasonably long and relatively vertical chute so surely if it's going everywhere (and shooting left) there's some sort of static/fluid mechanics at play?
Has it always been this messy? Early reports on it suggested it was a pretty tidy one.

Yes it has been this messy from day one. It seems very staticy and a lot of retention after each shot. A slight tap on the bench releases quite a bit. Incidentally one shop in Melbourne (non sponsor) gave me a demo last year and it was also throwing left and messy. This was after I bought it. So I think its inherent with this grinder. It is however producing great shots which is the most important thing but compared to my other grinders, Macap m4d and K3 touch, its terrible for mess.

I had one of these for the past year and had no issues regarding mess. But, to be fair, I never inspected the chute for retention.

Hmm, ..i think i recognise the mutterings of someone laying the foundations for an upgrade justification. !!
can you actually grind a full dose into a pf without spilling any ..without using a "coffe catcha" or similar.
i cannot imaging a full dose that doesnt spill without one ?

I recently changed my Mini Mazzer for a Eureka Atom. It's quiet, quick and tidy. Long chute gives me a nice pile of fluffy grinds. I do however pause it mid grind to tap it down. The pause function makes this painless. It's definitely worth a look.

How does the F4E compare with the K3 touch other than being more messy? Also, have you tried reducing the grind times to half, grinding twice and and tamping in between? I do this to reduce the mess with most of the grinders I'm using (K3 touch and Iberital at home, and Obel at work).

The F4E is a screamer, blazingly fast with a howl like no other.

I hope everyone realizes nothing in the previous post has anything to do with the Fiorenzato F4e. Just a play on words with the Phantom F-4E.
