My Rocky hasn't missed a beat in 10 years but will soon be on the for sale thread only due to a double upgrade. I found the Rocky was at the end of its range grinding for my Expobar Minore and the Macap 4D was a much better match. The Rocky worked beautifully with a Silvia prior to that.

Rocky served me well for 10 years, only now looking into an upgrade. Very capable grinder previously but better options out there now

I have a Rocky and it is a little noisy. Based on impressions of trying a couple of Compak and Macap models in a CS sponsor showroom a couple of weeks ago, I would say they were quieter than the Rocky. Not scientific of course

Rocky will do the job, although a Compak or Macap would be a better choice, like most grinders Rocky makes a reasonable amount of noise Pete, if you want quiet you'll probably have to go to a quality hand grinder.

Geez, I must've lucked out then - my Sunbeam '450 is coming up to ten years without missing a beat, used daily for most of that time...Originally posted by Yelta View PostPS seems most of the appliance type grinders are lucky to see their 3rd birthday.

Thanks a lot. Would a doserless or doser be better? What's the difference?

Yes, it definitely will be Ok providing you use freshly roasted, high quality beans and your preparation technique is up to scratch...

I've had a doserless for I can't remember how many years, on average, haven't use it that much, went off my Gaggia Classic for a while and didn't use it at all. But I don't think that the grinder was limiting my coffee outcomes. Late last year, bought a Minore III so have a bit more focus on the grinder. Cleaned and calibrated a couple of weeks ago, seems to grind ok for a good espresso shot but almost struggles to get it fine enough, effectively on a setting of 1. Clumps a bit. But it has been good over the years.
I feel that its not limiting me too much. Even our local CS sponsor supports the Rocky in terms of it not making much difference vs say Macap M2M or Compak K3 Push/Touch. Its a solid unit, 7kg vs 4kg for the M2M and not much more for the Compak. Lots of talk about others being better, but not a lot of hard data. Having said that, am considering a Macap M4D, but am also interested in seeing how the Baratza Sette stacks up when it comes out soon. Its the gadget freak in me coming out I think.
Edit: now looking at my CS join date, I must have had the doserless for about eight years!

Sweeper mod really helped mine - reduced grind retention heaps. I removed my step-less mod when I changed burrs over, haven't gone back to step-less and haven't noted massive issues.

Light years apart Paul.Originally posted by K_Bean_CoffeeI moved from Sunbean EM0480 to Compak K3 touch.
I always thought of the Rocky as a "slightly better than Sunbeam" grinder.
Yelta, you have changed my view on it now. 10 years is very impressive.
Make that 16 years and still soldiering on.
Never did the stepless mod on mine, found the adjustment increments fine enough for my requirements, however did the sweeper mod, quite an improvement.
