OE Lido 2 versus K3P for Mainly Pourover

Hi all,

I have done much searching and researching but am struggling to make a decision on an additional grinder for pourover and plunger coffee. I am thinking (very open to other suggestions) of going for a Lido 2 or K3P and am interested to know which you feel would give greater quality in the cup.
It will mainly be for pourover (80%) and plunger at this stage but I am increasingly interested in alternate brew methods and I have a M4D for espresso duties.
I don't mind hand grinding (have a Skerton currently) but am not against electric either.

As a side note has anybody compared M4D to Lido 2 for pourover?

Lido is a great grinder - matches my Robur for espresso duties, and great with the aeropress too

Hi Andy, I have the Lido E, I've used it for espresso, cold drip, plunger and pourover and all are really good. My main grinder is a Kony e but I use the Lido e more now for at work and travel. Yeah so I think its pretty cool and looks good as well. But that's just my opinion, better if you can look at one in the wild, some sponsors here have them.

Hi DBC. Thanks a lot for the reply, I am actually quite surprised by your comparison with the Robur and it has made me curious about experimenting with the Lido for espresso as well.
Thanks for the info Grant, it inspires a lot of confidence given you have such a high quality grinder as a benchmark.
I would very much like to see one in the wild but not so easy in Tassie so I am very appreciative of all opinions!

I'd be very surprised if you're not blown away by the Lido...

Many hundreds of them have been sold Australia wide and we have sold well over 200 without issues nor buyers remorse.

To the best of my memory, I can only recall seeing one or 2 Lido 2 sold secondhand- possibly for crossgrades to Lido E, 3 or E-T.

I had a week's leave with a Cremina/Lido 3 combo and the coffee was some of the best I have had this year.

I've done plenty of back to back tests recently. And in fact, shock horror - I think the Lido has the edge over the single dosed Robur (but not by much). When the Robur is used as designed, and can't pick much difference in flavour profiles between the two

I've recently been comparing an OE Pharos to a K3P for espresso duties and have been really pleased with how good the K3P tastes. The Pharos is great, really great- but the K3 is holding its own. It definitely isn't a toy.

Thanks for responding Chris, i had concluded that the Lido was a good quality grinder but I obviously underestimated just how good. In my mind I sincerely thought it was a fair comparison between the Lido and K3P. Would you happen to have an ETA on the Lido 2, if you are restocking?

Hi Chris,

So I get that the Lido E (and E-T which I'm probably more interested in) has a finer adjustment setup than the Lido 3. Does the 48mm burr set (E, E-T) v the 40mm burr set (L3) make any substantive difference? I assume the 48mm set up is a little quicker?

Yep - the Lido 2. I've never had any real adjustment issues using this for espresso (which is 98% of the time) as I've found that I simply leave it on one setting and change the dose weight or tamp ever so slightly to deal with bean freshness.
But I do have the advantage of home roasting - so my beans are roasted pretty consistently - there is not a lot of grind variation required despite the different bean origins - I roast to suit my pallette.

And yes - it is quite astonishing. I was shocked when I first tried out the lido how closely it matched the big conical - I really just bought it for holiday use, but now it is my main roast sample grinder!

Just an update as to where I have landed.
After a quick call to Chris this morning to clarify some details of the different versions of Lido I have ordered the Lido 2.
Thanks to each person that replied to this post which definitely helped me make a decision on going for Lido 2 or K3P, I appreciate you taking the time to share helpful advice and tips.
Once I have the grinder and have had a bit of a play I will most likely add to the dedicated Lido 2 thread.

I have been using a Lido 3 for pour over & Aeropress for the last few months.

No complaints at all & am constantly amazed at how good a grinder it is
