Or dare I say visit Aliexpress or Banggood and get a generic copy for about $25 shipped. (If you can wait 3-4 weeks that is).

I can see how that could happen over time. The interface has both force and repetition on it. I haven't been using mine long enough to get that point. I'll have a look at the Rhinowares product.Originally posted by Magic_Matt View PostI'd recommend against the Porlex - the handle/spindle interface wears out over time and the handle starts to fly off while grinding. Never had the problem with the Kyocera it replaced (wanted something to fit inside the Aeropress), but I didn't use it for very long. Rhinowares seems to have a decent reputation, and has some nice features like the Aeropress collar so that'd be my pick; but you'd probably be better served by spending a little more if you're using it every day.Last edited by ScottyF; 2 August 2016, 10:44 PM.

I've been using the Porlex at work for either pour-over using the Clever Dripper or Aeropress. The Porex a nicely styled bit of equipment - stainless steel, a rubberised sleeve that acts as both a grip and way of storing the hand-crank when being stored. It uses a ceramic burr and grind size is easily adjustable. For the money, it's a great little grinder.
Having said all that I've developed acute upgraditis, having had a look at the Helor. I expect that a Helor will be in my possession as soon as it's available through my favourite coffee-related retailer.

That price only really gives you a few options - Hario Slim, Porlex or Rhinowares. Most of them start at $60, but if you shop around you might find one on sale for <$50. Talk Coffee currently have both Rhinowares grinders for $60.

I think my Hario hand grinder is on the way out. It keeps spitting out bits of coffee bean when I grind my beans, it didn't used to do that. I've had it for some years.
What can I buy for less than $50? I'm in Melbourne.
If somebody wants to recommend a cheap electric grinder I'll listen. But it needs to be reliable.Last edited by pamount; 2 August 2016, 02:14 AM.Tags: None
