  • Do you have a 2nd grinder for home?

    Hi All.
In the last 6 months I upgraded my machine and grinder but want to find out whether many CS'rs have a second grinder for home use? I often like to have a decaf at night time which used to be easy when I was single dosing. However since I've now got my ideal setup (for now anyway), I am not single dosing so changing between beans in the same grinder is not practical.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a decent hand grinder for decaf? Would this suffice? Or would you recommend to get a cheap electric grinder? I like the idea of a hand grinder because it would't have to live on the kitchen bench.
    Any recommendations??

    Thanks

    Yep,

Just upgraded my setup and the Breville Smart has been relegated to decaf duties. I'm with you, the first world problem of switching out beans is a bit of a pain, so rather than part with the second grinder if works quite nicely with my setup.

Decaf consumption has increased now purely due to ease of use.

Do you still have the old grinder that you upgraded from?

Can't go too far past a Lido. It matches a big conical flavourwise, so no sacrifices there. And you can then take it on holidays too!

I use a Lido III for filter coffees, so I'd also second DesigningByCoffee's suggestion to look at maybe a Lido for your second grinder. Great quality grinder that won't break the bank as much as a second electric grinder would and you can take it around with you on holiday.

I personally single dose my Mazzer Major for espressos and find it easy to switch between beans and keep my coffee fresher sealed away, but it does add a bit of inconvenience to the morning routine.

Thanks guys. I am keeping my eyes on the Handground grinders due out in the next few months as well.

Lido. (might be better than your no 1 grinder without knowing what you got.) As DBC says, good for holidays etc. too.

I'm in the same situation, decided to save tokens for a Lido

i was exactly same & considering second grinder. Got a lido 3 so i could also take it on holidays as an upgrade from my porlex. Works great for any second bean as no grind retention - use it to switch single origins, to use a different grind size when using drip filter, and for decaf. Works beautifully (and takes up no bench space). When i go on holidays & camping i'm very happy i did it

                    Yes (no advertising)
.... E10OD for espresso only duties, Fausto for decaf and manual methods, Lido 2 for playing and when I need some exercise prior to the next coffee...

Update - purchased the Lido from a retailer here in Brisbane who was able to give me a demo and am blown away by how good it is. Can get back to enjoying decaf at home again now. Thanks
