Grinders and speed.

My Mazzer Mini takes about 45 seconds for two doubles. By the time I have filled one the next is nearly for the next. I make to double shots of espresso each morning and all up it takes about 4-5 minutes so the speed of the grinder doesn't really matter. However I am thinking of upgrading as I am going to gift the old Mazzer(about 6-7 years) to another family member who is starting the coffee journey. Sounds like a good reason to upgrade

For me Yelta, it's not the time spent waiting for the coffee to grind, it's the 30 seconds of grinding noise at 6 in the morning that bugs me. Admittedly, the fact that I have a vibe pump running for a further 30 seconds makes it somewhat inconsequential, I will one day replace my machine with a quieter one, at which stage I won't need to upgrade my grinder (unless I come up with a really great excuse)
Edit: felt I should clarify, I don't have a grinder that takes 30 seconds, it takes about 3.3 and I could never go back !Last edited by magnafunk; 26 September 2016, 06:30 PM.

I used a large hand grinder for espresso for years... grind speed is of zero concern for this user.

Grinders and speed.

I'm wondering just how important speed of grind is to the average home user.
Will attempt to post a poll with a few options.
