  • Got 1 from Anythony/casa espresso too.. Patient guy, great chap! May pop by the store again when back in melbourne..!

Now.. Just to dial in the atom finer as I am getting some channeling.. Which I noticed from the 3 bar pump pressure.. As compared to 9 bar pressure when I use pre ground beans..

    • This looks like a great home grinder... but how does it really compare when taking grind retention into consideration?

I saw another post which indicates that there are a couple of retention areas.

The other grinder I have been coveting is the Fiorenzato.

      So I’m torn.

Basically need a grinder that’s good for single dosing.

As much as I love my ATOM, the grinder isn't that ideal for single dosing. I find it holds around 5 grams or so but there are small mods you can make to improve on this.

To put it straight - there are very few grinders on the market actually suitable for single dosing. There's the Baratza Sette 270 - which performs reasonably well for a small cost but they seem to be riddled with issues.

Since your budget sits around the 1000 mark in assuming, why not have a look at the HG-1? It's a hand grinder, but it's fast, requires little effort, has zero retention and it'll be probably be quicker than trying to scrape every last bit of coffee out of an electronic grinder. The grind quality will be superior and on all reports probably on par/better than the EK43 grind quality.

        Good luck!

          Hi Cvee,

Yes you will find that there is some grind retention with the ATOM, no more then most however and i would suggest less then the Fiorenzato.

Fiorenzato are good grinders but i wouldn't put normally consider them as a competitor to the ATOM, very different beasts.

If you want true single dose grinding the HG1 is one to consider

          Cheers

          • Here’s a quick update on the Atom.
4 months on and its still grinding away in style. It’s a fantastic grinder and I have no regrets at all on this one. Highlight - it’s really quiet 🤫
            Lovin it !!

Cool, so we both have a Profitec Pro 500 with a Eureka Atom. Great minds think alike as they say

                • Yep, I notice a few others with this combo too.
I think I was a reasonably early convert to the Profitec brand, after catching my attention from probably the same YouTube clips. Took me a little while to eventually purchase as I was waiting for my existing machine to pack it in, plus it was pretty much flying under the radar at the time.
Been a fan of Eureka since owning the Mignon. Took me a while to convince myself to upgrade, but am really happy I did.
Still have the Mignon btw, can't bring myself to part with it. I currently use it for my Aero press (which is way below it's status).

                  • I'm looking around for a dedicated grinder for the DE1. After reading thru this thread the Atom is now on the short list along with the Mignon and maybe the Olympus.

I want a Kermit green Atom though. To match the colour of envy when my friends see the Decent next to the Lambro

                    • I may be wrong but thought Antony from Casa Espresso has a green Atom
never had an Atom but had a Mignon, thinking if an Atom if financially in reach defiantly get the Atom instead of the Mignon. Same for any grinder brand spend the most you can. No point grindingly $40-50 specialty beans to go into an expensive machine with a budget grinder. Quality has multiple step and the grinder is often overlooked. One other point in my opinion the Atom, Olympus, zenith ect look much more ‘the business’ then a mignon

                            • I asked this in the Mignon thread (clearly the wrong place), so I thought I should ask in the right thread. Does anyone know what the differences are between the standard Atom and the new Specialty version?

Looking at the specs on the official Italian site, I can't really see any differences.
