Hey mate - sorry, I forgot about this!

The grinder has been amazing (for me). The adjustments hold sold, it dials in super easy and it is wickedly quiet.

I find the grind very clump free and nice and fluffy. It spits out a very consistent 19g dose in about 8 seconds and I would say 99% of the grinds hit the portafilter - there is very little throw on to the counter (most, if not all, are caused by me).

I have the small hopper currently installed typically only fill it halfway. The odd bean does get hung up when it’s running low, but it’s not an issue.

I think Eureka has also changed the spindle that holds the burrs. They plastic “spiral” that pulled beans down on the older Atom has been changed to a larger spiral in the metal spindle. I am not 100% about this change as I didn’t own the older version, but I get very little “spit back” from beans when the hopper is low.

I am thrilled with the grinder and highly recommend putting it on your shortlist.

          • Having now read the whole thread, and only seen one reference to this question with no clear answer...

Would an Atom be a good investment for light duty cafe use? Say, 50-100 coffees/day? I'm not seeing the Atom 65 anywhere, though will shoot off some inquiries. This would be as an alternative to, say, a Ceado E6P (keep in mind, said tiny cafe is not in Aus, we're running a GS3, and the grinder would need to be 220v/60hz capable).

Speaking of which, don't suppose I could trouble someone to check the power specs label, and see if it, by chance, says 50/60Hz next to the 240V bit? None of the Aussie sites seem to mention this, and the one site that does states "110/120V", clearly a cut and paste from the US info sheet...

            • Zee, unfortunately for me the compliance label is prominently displayed in my setup. It reads 50-60hz, 220-240V so you are ok.

Sweet - awesome for me! (not so much for you, sadly, though I'm sure the quality of grinds more than makes up for it!).

Thanks for the info - also thanks jay714.

A barista I spoke to not long after I got mine 18 months ago said he used to work in a cafe in Sydney CBD and they used an Atom as a decaf grinder and called it a "little tank"

Sounds promising - though perhaps the Zenith is a wiser choice. We're having trouble getting people to actually send us quotes (It seems to be a Filipino thing), so I was thinking of getting an Atom to get us by, then turn it into a backup/Single O grinder once we get the Ceado E37S we're looking at. Though one of the Ceado resellers finally responded, I may still get an Atom or Zenith as well anyway, especially seeing as one of the site sponsors that sell atoms is a mere 10 minute drive away, and literally right across from one of the suppliers for my Audio/Visual/Integration business...

I've been using the regular Atom for 70-150 coffees / session. Works fine in this scenario. Hands free dose in to PF. I have two PF on the go so can easily switch. Grind dose / timer consistency is good if you keep beans in the hopper.

Things would more troublesome for single dosing with this grinder. Maybe the new auger guard mentioned helps with that on the Atom 65.

I'm keen on the Etzinger EtzMax Medium W as next level purchase to cover all bases.

For budget friendly, I've been wondering about Mazzer SJ deli with red speed burrs for single dose and general fun.

                            • A friend of mine got a Eureka Atom recently here in Brisbane. He's having a strange issue with dialling it in. Once dialled, it produces great coffees for the day however the next morning the grind size gets too fine on its on. Then he has to dial it all over again for the day. Any idea what could be causing it? Some fault?

I assume he isn't doing anything weird with it overnight? Sounds like the level of beans in the hopper is changing. With most grinders that move the upper burr, having less beans in the hopper makes the grind courser, having more beans in the hopper makes the grind finer (all in the same setting). With the Atom and other grinders that have a fixed upper burr and move the bottom burr for adjustment, having less beans in the hopper makes the grind finer, having more beans in the hopper makes the grind courser (all in the same setting).

I had a lot of issues dialling in because I would fill the hopper and then run it until it was empty and refill it. This will change the size of the grind without changing the setting. Make sure he is keeping the level of beans in the hopper consistent. I found it best when the upper limit I filled the beans to is about 1cm above where the hopper walls go vertical, and the bottom limit where I would add more beans to be as soon as you can see the finger guard through the beans.
