lol... I was wondering that myself - I counted one for normal, one for possibly decaf but by the third I was just perplexed.... a nice set-up though

Will be interesting to read your review when you get time.

Thanks 338. She came out of hospital yesterday, that was a better present than the Atom and Lunar put together.

I think I'll wait a little while to do a review so I actually have a feel for it in my routine. I will say that the portafilter holder is made from bent 3mm stainless steel and the edges haven't been rounded off, so it's been scratching my portafilter a little. Ive ordered some 2mm thick neoprene foam with an adhesive backing that I'll stick to the top of it. I could only get it in a 1m x 30cm sheet so if anyone wants a bit for theirs send me your address, on me. I'll try and make a video of me applying it and how well it works. Also I love the way the image of the single or double cups fill up as a percentage of the time elapsed.

Haha, I didn't until I got the Atom! The Breville is my old one and the Sunbeam belongs to my father in law. We're staying with the outlaws while my wife recovers, until she doesn't need someone else in the house with her all the time. The stone bench tops and splashbacks aren't mine either!

That is good news! Hoping for a swift recovery.

        RE: the Atom portfilter holder

I'll be interested to hear how the neoprene solution goes for you and will look forward to your review down the track.

If you are single dosing you will need to pause several times at the end as the beans tend to jump around when there isn't many beans in the hopper, it does however manage to grind it all up.
Thank you for the info about single dosing, this is exactly what I needed to hear!

if you were dead set about zero grind retention take a look at the Baratza Sette 270W. I liked the concept of the Sette however the build quality/aesthetics wasn't for me. If it came in stainless steel it would have been a different story.

If you don't worry about noise it could be a serious consideration.

Thank you for the tip, I was seriously considering buying the Sette for a long time, but read too much about quality issues and broken machines. This adds up to the noisy operation and the plastic housing, so I decided not to jump on that train. That Atom is everything I was looking for, the only thing that bothered me is the popcorning when single dosing (=weighing the exact dose), but if it is managable by pausing at the end, it is fine. I do the same thing with my Lelit now. They also say the Zenith small hopper also helps reducing the popcorning.

Perhaps too soon to say regarding the Atom, but in my limited experience with other gadgets (e.g., 12v fridge controls, 12v solar regulator keypad, washing machines, RCBS reloading scales, etc) it's the pushbutton keypad, especially the fully sealed ones, that seem to have a shorter lifespan than other components of the respective bit of equipment and might need replacing before any of the rest of the machine fails.
Agree with this. The the push buttons will be the first things to go on this grinder. Seen this happen to Mazzer grinders and refractometers. I am currently putting through 2 kg a day through two Atoms. No problems.
After playing with one in the flesh finally the buttons look like those cheap sealed buttons, but they feel like they have microswitches or something similar behind them. They don't feel like microwave buttons or like you're pushing against a bubble, they feel mechanical. I haven't pulled it apart to see if there's access behind to replace them.

ID:	745625 Mark out for cut. You can also see the thickness of the neoprene (2mm) and the thickness of the sturdy portafilter holder (3mm?).

ID:	745628 At this point I had an idea to roll the neoprene over the inside edges and stick it to them as well.

ID:	745634 Slight over order?

Will include the neoprene addition in my review later. And as you can see from the last picture I have more than a lifetime supply of 2mm neoprene, anyone is welcome to some for free just send me your address. I think if I buy more in the future I might buy it without adhesive and use some high strength contact glue, as I'm not sure how long the adhesive on this will last, but at least this way it won't be impossible to get off.

                          Hi Matt

Looks great. I am waiting for mine to arrive but I will utilise your idea if you don't mind. Will be interested how you find the grinder.

Just out of curiosity where did you get the neoprene from ?

                          Cheers

                          Alastair

ps have just realised I am only just up the road from you... I am in abbotsbury

I got the neoprene from fleabay, but you're welcome to have some of mine. I'm in Glenhaven for the next few weeks, but can drop some in your letterbox next time I'm going to the office for work or post it to you if you like.
How do I find the grinder? Amazing. It's as big of an upgrade from the Breville as I expected, and yet it still surprises me.
