I was actually thinking about that today. How's it hold up?
Really good. Has been over 3 years now I think, no problems. I thought about neoprene or a rubber gasket to begin with but this looks so much better and no doubt is easier to clean. The good thing about it is you can peel it off really easy and put a fresh coat on. I haven't needed to since the first coat, but I have been thinking about it. The original can of dip I had went off about a year ago, it doesn't store well in the cans. The spray cans are much better, but you need a few coats.
How wide is the mouth of the can? By eye the fork is closer to 60mm wide.
You made me smile! I thought about that last night. The Mazzer holder is just under 58mm wide at the widest point and I remember it only just fitted in the can with the smallest of clearance. You could pour some into a disposable container and work quickly, another good reason to use the spray though.
If you do use the spray don't worry about masking the holder anywhere you don't want to spray. Just wait until it is just touch dry, use a blade for any straight edges you want, and rub off the over spray with your finger.
And a raw metal porta filter holder like others have mentioned here. * NB: interesting to note in the first post in this thread it talks of a powder coated PF holder.
Looking forward to the kids being in bed so I can start to test this out further.
Great looking grinder on the bench. Easy to use / intuitive interface and touch pad.
Love the quiet grinding. Really really quiet. So good :-)
Love the light. Love the hands free. I might need to work slightly on stability of the PF. The dipped fork might add some extra grip.
The fluffy grinds appear really quickly and quietly in the PF.
Love the easy / quick change over to grinds bin for pour over if you want that sort of thing.
Relatively mess free compared to other grinders.
One downer on mine - I think I might need a shim kit or something as I'm at grind dial 1 and still getting gusher shots, so I'm not going to waste any more coffee at this point until I do some more troubleshooting/seek wisdom.
[strike]I'll re-read some PMs but I think Wushoes may have had one with similar issue in his earlier Atom purchases. Edit: turned out to be something different I think[/strike]
Oh that's no fun matth3wh! Does it not go down past 1? I haven't tried.
I did the first few coats of plasti-dip today and will probably do a couple more tomorrow. I took some photos and will try to show the process I took when I get a chance.
happy to be wrong but thought on the atom, like the rest of the eureka grinders, the numbers on the adjustment knob where simply a reference point and not a setting for lack of a better term. With my Mignon it was a case of slowly adjust finer till burr just touch (you'll a chirping noise if doing while running) then back off corser till find the grind your after. The ataom may be different by my Mignon was around half to a third of a turn back from burrs touching.
would love to her people's thoughts on the atom so keep the reviews coming as really keen on this grinder just with it was better as single dosing.
Agree with Martin. Like most (all?) flat bur stepless grinders, the numbers are simply a reference point. The burs will touch if wound down too far, so no need for shims. Hopefully, Antony from Casa Espresso will confirm this.
Cheers
Mal
Hi Mal. Yes all seems good now. Have been conversing with Matt via text just now. The numbers are as you said, just a reference to where you were before, not necessarily an indication of a grind setting
