    Thanks Readeral and Dimal - l can confirm it is an earth point. The plug has an ATS tag saying that passed a test in oct 2014. l have a friend who is a sparky - l'll get him to do the test you suggest above Dimal.

    Yep, looks like an Earth Point...
    If your grinder has a 3-Pin Aussie Plugtop, does the Earth Pin (the vertical one) show almost zero Ohms continuity with the metal case of the grinder using a Multimeter set on Ohms x 1? If not, better take it to a licensed sparky to check it out for you and make it safe...

    HNY to all coffee snobs!

    l have a question that maybe someone could assist me with,

    l have just bought a used 2006 Rancilio MD 50 at - it has a bolt & nut on the side near the power lead does anyone know what this is for?
