Upgrade from Mazzer Mini

For what it's worth, I don't believe that there is any one brand or grinder that stands tall above all the rest. Differentiation in the market is the name of the game today and more bell's and whistles will definitely attract a certain sector of the coffee drinking population to it, as too will the opposite.

That was the point I was attempting to make in as few words as I could - Blanket statements are never very helpful in any context...

I'm not entirely sure that Mazzer are that far behind the pack, I just think their focus has been on the upper end of their range, evidenced by the fact that the Mini (and SJ) have remained unchanged for quite a few years.
I've been lucky enough to try a few of these grinders and the Mini and SJ are great grinders. However I agree that there are better value options out there at the moment. Quamar are a great example of this. They might not quite have the finish of Compak, Macap or Mazzer, but they work as well, if not better for a few hundred dollars less than their comparable model from other brands.

I agree and can't see anything wrong with KBeans comments. It's perfectly true that while Mazzers are solid offerings, they are a bit behind the curve these days.

Consider newcomers to this hobby in the market for a grinder. Quite possibly the only brand of grinder they would have heard of is Mazzer, and that would be due to past reputation. In this case, I'd absolutely want to be informed that the situation has changed and there are better offerings for the dollar these days.

Funnily enough I recall another sponsor making a very similar statement about the Compak E-series, relating to the timer interface as I recall. Nobody died then either, everyone was still free to buy whatever equipment they liked and most probably took it with a pinch of salt. 🙄

I only make espresso and was thinking of trying to find either a second hand HG one or versalab m3. I'm after something the same size or smaller than the mazzer mini that is good quality, gives a great grind, is great for single dosing and doesn't look plastic and terrible on the kitchen counter.

I'm no good for general advice on this topic though. I have a Mini and the sweeping and cleaning is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned - but I don't know any better - I've had it for 13 years.

Oh yep - Kony E is V nice but many other big conicals (eg, Compak E10) are better (IMHO).

Tells me both do the job and it's probably splitting hairs, particularly in a domestic setting where you'll be lucky to wear out a burrset let alone a grinder. 🤔

Agreed Yelta. Mazzer is a top end and reliable brand.
A very comparable grinder to Macap and Compak for a top end home grinder is a Mazzer Super Jolly electronic with a small (mini ) hopper.
