Not familiar with the Vario but I am with the M2M and I would buy another within that budget. I've just upgraded to Rocket Fausto but was very happy with the M2M, but you would maybe go the M2D to get timed doses for more consistent dose weights, but if you're happy to use scales then you can save a few $ with the M2M.
As others have said, see what your local sponsors have available, they may just surprise you

Many good options other than the Vario you mentioned including Compak K3, Macap M2M, Quamar Q50, Baratza Sette, Anfim/ECA KS, Eureka Mignon. If you do end up going for the Vario make sure it's the Mahlkonig version and not the Baratza version which is inferior. There are a couple of site sponsors in Brisbane who's names I can't remember off the top of my head. I'd go check a couple of grinders out in the flesh if I were you as in my experience this can make a big difference with these sort of decisions.
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Have a Silvia 2010, model ?
Make 2 to 4 flat whites a day, want something that my wife can use, ie scales etc.
Want to be reasonably compact, mess is not a problem (three teenagers in the house...)
Time and noise not an issue either, budget $700.
Mahlkonig Vario looks like a contender.
I am in Brisbane.
TIA
